キリストの奇蹟的な癒しを確認できました！

私たちの偉大な、救い主イエス・キリストのお名前においてごあいさつをします。

このe-mailをベルギーから書いています。
当地には7月9日から来ており、明日、ブルンジに帰国する予定です。
皆さまのお祈りとご支援に感謝をいたします。まず最初に、ベルギーへの査証がとれたことは奇蹟でした。皆さまのお祈りがなければ、そのことは不可能だったと思います。

ベルギーでは私の身体の検査、処置が十分に行われ、症状緩和のリハビリ運動を教わりました。いまのところ、特に心配することはないという検査結果が出ました。
これで主の御用に専心できます。どうもありがとうございました。

第250号 マタイの福音書11：15－27

｢神の子ども｣として「永遠のいのち」にあずかるとは、どういうことですか？　

人生には、｢神の子ども｣か「悪魔の子ども」かのいずれかの人生しかない…

あなたはどちらの人生を選んでいますか？

耳のある者は聞きなさい。
この時代は何にたとえたらよいでしょう。市場にすわっている子どもたちのようです。彼らは、ほかの子どもたちに呼びかけて、こう言うのです。『笛を吹いてやっても、君たちは踊らなかった。弔いの歌を歌ってやっても、悲しまなかった。』ヨハネが来て、食べも飲みもしないと、人々は『あれは悪霊につかれているのだ』と言い、人の子が来て食べたり飲んだりしていると、『あれ見よ。食いしんぼうの大酒飲み、取税人や罪人の仲間だ』と言います。でも、知恵の正しいことは、その行いが証明します。」

それから、イエスは、数々の力あるわざの行われた町々が悔い改めなかったので、責め始められた。｢ああ、コラジン。ああベツサイダ。おまえたちのうちで行われた力あるわざが、もしもツロとシドンで行われたのだったら、彼らはとうの昔に荒布をまとい、灰をかぶって悔い改めていたことだろう。しかし、そのツロとシドンのほうが、おまえたちに言うが、さばきの日には、まだおまえたちよりは罰が軽いのだ。カペナウム。どうしておまえが天に上げられることがありえよう。ハデスに落とされるのだ。おまえの中でなされた力あるわざが、もしソドムでなされたのだったら、ソドムはきょうまで残っていたことだろう。しかし、そのソドムの地のほうが、おまえたちに言うが、さばきの日には、まだおまえよりは罰が軽いのだ。｣

そのとき、イエスはこう言われた。｢天地の主であられる父よ。あなたをほめたたえます。これらのことを、賢い者や知恵のある者には隠して、幼子たちに現してくださいました。そうです。父よ。これがみこころにかなったことでした。すべてのものが、わたしの父から、わたしに渡されています。それで、父のほかには、子を知る者がなく、子と、子が父を知らせようと心に定めた人のほかは、だれも父を知る者がありません。　　　　　マタイ11：15－27

昨今、世界中で起こっていることは、先行き危機感や不安をあおるようなことばかりです。この七月は、ドイツ、米国で銃乱射事件が相次ぎ、バングラデシュ、フランスでは、イスラム過激派によるテロ事件、トルコでは、7月16日、クーデター未遂が勃発し、多くの死傷者が出ました。
ドイツでは、ミュンヘンのショッピングセンターでの銃乱射事件に続き、七月第三週から第四週にかけての一週間だけでも南部バイエルン州界隈で四回も銃による殺傷事件が起こったことが報道されました。

米国では、六月に起こったフロリダ州オーランドのナイトクラブで四十九人殺害という米国史上最悪の銃乱射事件の直後、再び、フロリダ州のナイトクラブで十八人死傷の事件が起きました。

7月1日にバングラデシュの首都ダッカのレストランで起こったテロ事件では、多くの邦人が犠牲になり、14日には、フランス南部のニースで、革命記念日のイベント会場が狙われ、遊歩道をトラックが2kmに亘って暴走し、八十四人死亡という大テロ事件が起こりました。

26日には、銃規制が厳しく安全とみなされていた日本で、刃物によって、十九人殺害、二十六人重軽傷という信じられないような凶悪な殺傷事件が起こりました。
神奈川県相模原市の知的障害者施設で起こった元職員によるこの事件は、この若者が「重度の障害者は全員消えるべきだ」との恐ろしい偏見を持って計画的な犯行に及んだこと、大麻を使用し、ある時期から突然人が変わったようになったという情報から、人の行動の背後での悪魔の躍動を如実に物語っています。

さらに、七月にスマートフォン向けゲームアプリの配信が米国、豪州、日本で始まって以降、ゲームへの熱狂で多くの事故、事件が世界中で続出しています。

人が制御できない衝動に駆られ、物事に没頭し、歯止めが効かない状態に陥るとしたら、聖書は、それが善悪に関わらず、神以外の霊によって支配されている状態であることを教えています。神は、人類最初の殺人者となったカインに、カインが犯行に及ぶ前、

「なぜ、あなたは憤っているのか。なぜ、顔を伏せているのか。あなたが正しく行ったのであれば、受け入れられる。ただし、あなたが正しく行っていないのなら、罪は戸口で待ち伏せして、あなたを恋い慕っている。だが、あなたは、それを治めるべきである」（創世記4：6－7）

と警告されました。自分の思うようにならないことで神に憤り、心の中にアベル殺害を抱いていたカインに神は、最初からの犯罪者であり、神から離れる者をとりこにしようと待ち伏せしている「悪魔」に心を委ねる者に決してなってはいけないこと、むしろ、悪魔の誘惑に打ち勝たなければならないことを、前もって諭されたのでした。

キリストの愛弟子ヨハネは、人の一生がサタンとの戦いであること、人には、「神の子ども」か「悪魔の子ども」かのいずれかの人生しかないこと、この世が好む「中道」は神の掟にはないことを、『ヨハネの手紙第一』三章で明確に教えています。

ヨハネは「兄弟を憎む者はみな、人殺しです。いうまでもなく、だれでも人を殺す者のうちに、永遠のいのちがとどまっていることはないのです」と語り、神からの霊は「人となって来たイエス・キリストを告白する霊」で、それ以外はすべて「反キリストの霊」（ヨハネ第一4：3）であると明言しました。聖書はこのように明確にすべての人が真の神からの霊を受けて生きるべきであることを語り、それ以外の霊はすべて悪魔の支配下にあることを教えています。神によって造られた人がこのように生きることは必須で、｢神の子ども｣として生きることは人の側の選択ではなく、神のご命令です。神の言葉、聖書は日本中どこでも入手でき、真理を求める人たちはみなこの御言葉を通して、神に出会うことができるのです。
しかし、今日どれほど多くの人たちが神を求めて生きているでしょうか。思い起こされるのは、冒頭に引用したキリストのメッセージです。

キリストが名を挙げられたガリラヤ湖の北の町々、コラジンやベツサイダは今日、廃墟と化しているようですが、旧約時代から聖書に登場するツロ、シドン、ソドムは異邦人の町々でした。キリストは、宣教の本拠地とされたカペナウム近辺のコラジンやベツサイダで多くの力ある働きをされ、住民は大きな栄光にあずかったのでした。しかし、キリストの驚くべきわざを見、恵みにあずかりながらも、人々は批判こそすれ、メッセージに真剣に耳を傾け、自ら悔い改めて、神の救いを受けようとはしませんでした。

もしキリストがコラジンやベツサイダでなされた働きがツロやシドンやソドムでなされたなら、ソドムの人々でさえ悔い改めて救いを得たに違いない、したがって、世の終わりには、キリストの福音の光に照らされ、多くの恵みにあずかりながら神の招きに応答しなかったコラジンやベツサイダやカペナウムは、福音の光に照らされなかったツロやシドンやソドムより大きな裁きを受けることになるであろうと、キリストは聞く耳のないご自分の民に厳しく警告されたのでした。

神の創造の秩序や掟が無視され、人道主義、博愛主義の名の下で、この世の掟が人の望む方向にどんどん書き換えられ、ゆがめられた新奇な基準で人を評価する傾向に拍車がかかっている昨今、この文脈でのキリストの締めくくりのお言葉は、注目に値します。

キリストが神の御旨にかない、永遠の生命を得ている者として挙げられたのは、この世が評価せず、軽視する幼子や幼子の知恵にしか達さない弱者であることを明確にされたからです。「これらのことを、賢い者や知恵のある者には隠して、幼子たちに現してくださいました」と、キリストは、自分が無力であることを知り、神に依存する者だけが救いにあずかる者であることを明らかにされたのです。

全人類の救いのために必要な、生ける神の啓示をすべて網羅している聖書は、時空を超えた真理を告げている唯一の書です。今、キリスト信仰に対する迫害のない日本では、この聖書を通してだれにでも神を知る道が開かれています。ユダヤ人やキリスト者に対する迫害が米国やヨーロッパをも含めて世界的に拡大している世界情勢から、また、世の中が非常に極悪になっている事実から、信仰の自由が失われるときは予想以上に近づいているのかもしれません。
すべての日本人が神の警告を真剣に受け止め、決断しなければならないときはもう来ています。

キリストの宣教命令に従って過去二千年間、福音を伝えるいろいろな試みがされてきましたが、特に世の終わりには、神の奥義、―イエス・キリストによる全人類の救い― が明らかにされ、人々の探索によって「真理」が明らかにされることを聖書は宣言しています。

フルダミニストリーでは、聖書が証しする神の言葉の正しさを、人間の学問「科学」が発見し始めていることを少しでも多くの方々に知っていただくため、五月から『生きるを考える』集いを定期的に開いています。

この世に生まれる者すべてに与えられる生命、―身体の死に向かってのこの世の人生― と、神とともに生きる永遠の生命、―不死の人生― とがあることを聖書は語っていますが、この「永遠」の概念を理解することは実際には非常に難しいのです。七月の集いで、数学者のジョン・パーカー師は、数学的概念の「無限」の理解を聖書の語る「永遠」の解釈へと発展させ、永遠の生命にあずかることの意味に大きな洞察を与えてくださいました。

永遠とは果てしなく続く日々のことと私たちは考え、不死に挑戦する現代医科学はまさにそのように捉えていますが、果たして、キリストが約束された「永遠のいのち」とはそのような時間的、空間的永続性に言及しているものなのでしょうか。
パーカー師の解説を次のようにまとめてみました。

無限を見つけるためには、数学的に数を繰り返し増やしていく方法と、反対にどんどん減らしていく方法が考えられます。思考体験の一例として提示されたのは、「カントール集合」という無限追求の試みでした。

まず、ある一定の長さの線分を三分の一に分け、真ん中の三分の一の線分を除去し、左側と右側に残った線分をさらに三分の一に分け、各々の真ん中を除去し、さらに残った線分を三等分し、真ん中を除去し…という具合に同じ選択を繰り返していくのです。この結果がどうなるかは難しい数式を用いなくても、分割、除去を繰り返していくうちに、果てしなく零に近づくことは明らかです。カントール集合は数えきれないほど無限であるにもかかわらず、その長さは「０」、すなわち、無限の結果は零ということを暗示しているのです。

有限の人が理解を越えた無限に挑戦するとき、この逆説が生じる、と考えるとき、死ぬことが定められた人が理解を越えた不死に挑戦することの愚かさが見えてくるのです。無限の神を知るため、また、永遠の生命を理解するために、有限の理由づけをするとしたら、その結果得られるものは間違い、混乱です。

なまじ知識、知恵があると思う者「賢い者や知恵のある者」はみな、この罠に陥りますが、「幼子たち」は理由づけなく霊によって創り主なる神を理解することができます。
聖書の語る永遠とは時空の延長という概念ではなく、｢神とともにいる｣一瞬のことなのです。

中でも、ジョン・ニュートンの作詞した有名な讃美歌「アメイジング・グレイス」の最後の歌詞に、この永遠が正しく洞察されていることは大きな発見でした。残念ながら邦訳者は、この箇所をこの世的な概念でしか翻訳していませんが、ジョン・ニュートンは永遠の概念を「神とともにいる世、神の国に何万年いようと、最初の一瞬と全く変わらない、同じである」として、神と共なる永遠の賛美を一瞬のことになぞらえているのです。

GOD’S WORD WILL NEVER RETURN TO HIM EMPTY WITHOUT ACHIEVING ITS PURPOSE

Although terrible unpredictable happenings are occurring worldwide and there is much dark news, yet in light of God's prophecies' fulfillment, the time of His consummation is undoubtedly close.

‘Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.
Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labour on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare.
Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you,  my faithful love promised to David.
See, I have made him a witness to the peoples, a ruler and commander of the peoples.
Surely you will summon nations you know not, and nations you do not know will come running to you, because of the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has endowed you with splendour.’
Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near.
Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.
‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,’ declares the LORD.
‘As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
As the rain and the snow come down from heaven,
and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
so is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
Instead of the thorn-bush will grow the juniper, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the LORD’s renown, for an everlasting sign, that will endure for ever.’          ISAIAH 55:1- 13.

Isaiah prophesied the suffering and glory of the Jewish Messiah in the fourth servant song recorded in 52:13-53:12. After the servant’s death, the things written in Chapter 55 (quoted above) would become available for all those who would respond to God’s calling. Because the death of the servant paid for the free gift of life, now all those who are spiritually thirsty can freely drink of the water of life. This is Christ’s invitation to everybody in the New Testament as well.

This chapter begins with the words not of the prophet but of the Lord Himself, who initially addressed the surviving remnant of Israel, the chosen people, through whom His salvific work will subsequently extend to the whole nations. Thus, the whole message is directed at the Gentiles as well, and the means of their salvation is through the Gospel and Christ’s teachings, which Isaiah expressed using the terms ‘wine and milk’ in v.1. The Gospel is of far more worth than gold and silver in the world and yet, the fact is that we have nothing to give to God for it. Only His grace has given it to us without money and price. An Aramaic translation of the Hebrew Bible, “the Targum” interprets this verse as: ‘Lo, everyone that would learn, let him come and learn… He that hath no silver, come hear and learn; come, hear and learn… without price and money, doctrine better than wine and milk’.

If false doctrine, including pagan philosophies, traditions and heresies by false teachers are not ‘bread’, spending our time, energy and strength in reading and hearing it is not wholesome but rather harmful. Labouring for the works of the law to achieve righteousness brings no satisfaction, peace nor comfort. Instead, all those who sincerely seek after God need to turn to the Lord Himself and His Word. Only God’s Word, the Gospel, when found and eaten by faith, is digested to produce the joy in the heart of the seekers. David sang his joy in the Lord in Ps.36:5-10:

Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, LORD, preserve both people and animals. How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast in the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart.

The Lord invites the remnant of Israel with earnestness and tender care, repeatedly exhorting them to hear and come to Him to live. He refers to ‘an everlasting covenant’, which is not the same as the Sinai covenant of works and circumcision given to Moses, but a covenant of grace. The Messiah, the son of David, Jesus Christ is the Mediator of the eternal covenant. This covenant sprang from God’s mercy, and has been ratified and confirmed by the blood of Christ shed on the cross. The covenant promises redemption, pardon of sin, regeneration, salvation and eternal life to all the nations, both Jews and Gentiles, who turn to Christ in faith.

God specifically chose the Israelites among all nations as His witnesses to convey His messages of salvation to the whole world:

You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will display my splendour’ (Is.49:3) and ‘I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth (Is.49:6).

However, Israel failed to faithfully respond to His commission and now, God, in His love and grace, has appointed Christ to the office of a mediator to be His true witness. As a good shepherd leads his flock to good pastures, Christ has been leading all the nations out of their own ways to His way and ultimately He will lead those who obey and trust in Him to eternal kingdom as the Targum interprets: ‘Behold, I have appointed him a Prince to the people, a King, and a ruler over all kingdoms.’

Isaiah foresaw the arrival of the bright day when the Gospel would be sent to all nations and the Messiah would rule over the entire earth. The Gentiles who did not even know God and the existence of God, who were in a state of darkness and who did not hear the Gospel would come to Christ in response to His call so as to lay hold on Him the hope set before them.

In view of Solomon’s conviction in Ecc. 9:10:

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom,

taking heed of the exhortation of v.6:

Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near

is very important. Under the Old Testament, particular places were appointed to worship God and for Israelites to seek after Him. First, it was the tabernacle, then later, it became the temple. In contrast, under the New Testament, God could be sought and found wherever Christ’s followers met together. This exhortation refers to public worship, as well as private prayer/worship.
Unless we accept the Gospel and Christ as our Savior now on earth, while we live in a physical body, it will be too late to confess our faith in Him. Although our soul and spirit continue to exist even after physical death, no chance to accept Christ will be given after death, that is, in a state of being without a physical body. Some Christianity denominations hold the possibility of a chance of hearing the Gospel even after death. However, the Scripture is clear on this issue and there will be no opportunity for people to be saved after death as Christ’s parable of “The Rich and Lazarus” clearly teaches and also Hebrews 9:27 declares:

Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment (Line added).

God desires repentance of the wicked and their return to Him when they are thoroughly awakened and convinced of sin and their wicked course of lives, and when they forsake their own wicked ways by the saving power of Christ. Thinking of the fact that all men are unrighteous and wicked in the sight of God, we must forsake all wrong thoughts such as of man-made religion, salvation, self-righteousness and instead, receive His mercy, forgiveness, righteousness, and eternal salvation.

Compared with the thoughts of God, the thoughts of men are finite, limited and evil. The thoughts of God are infinite and boundless with no beginning and no end. Men think of their own achievement, such as saving themselves by works and efforts, obtaining righteousness on their own, justifying themselves with reasons, and aiming to get wisdom, knowledge, profession, status, privileges, honour, riches, security and so on. But the thoughts of God reverse all those, causing men to return to Him with conversion and repentance. That is why men’s thoughts should be completely forsaken to fully appreciate His abundance. God alone is willing to forgive “all returning sinners” to life.

God, who always produces sufficient food for living creatures, declares:

my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

This may either refer to the Word of God, Christ Himself or God-sent prophets’ messages, through whom His whole plans and purposes were announced. The former came from heaven as God’s free gift to everybody and produced a large harvest of souls on earth and accomplished the whole will of God.

The world where God’s entire creation rejoices is a picture of the messianic kingdom. Instead of wicked men, likened to ‘the thorn-bush…briers’ for their unfruitfulness and harmful ways, good men, likened to fruitful, sweet fragrant and beautiful trees such as ‘the myrtle’, shall grow and spread the Gospel as His true witness.

The prophet Haggai announced the coming day of God’s judgment on the nations:

This is what the LORD Almighty says: “In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land. I will shake all nations, and what is desired by all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,” says the LORD Almighty (Ha.2:6-7).

We are lately seeing His shaking of everything in the world: climate change causing an abnormally high temperature worldwide, drought and famine, storms and floods, typhoons and hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, as well as political, cultural, social, financial and religious instability. All these indicate that the biblical prophecies are coming true. Christians need to know what the Lord is saying to His people, Jews and Gentiles, through these shakings so that we can appropriately prepare ourselves for His next actions.

Terrible unpredictable happenings are occurring worldwide, and Japan recently came under the spotlight for a mass killing incident, in which nineteen residents were killed and twenty-six people were injured in a knife attack at a care centre for people with mental disabilities. The suspect bragged that the severely disabled should disappear from the world. The common factor behind these killings is the devil, who is

a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth for there is no truth in him (John 8:44).

While there is much dark news, the following information tells us that the time of God’s consummation is close at hand, in light of a partial fulfillment of Isiah’s prophecy, as examined above.

Wouldn't it have been amazing to have witnessed a miracle like Moses parting the Red Sea, to have stood among the crowd of thousands fed by Christ using only two fish and five loaves of bread, or to have experienced some similar miracle? Where are today's jaw-dropping spectacles? Are epic wonders only a thing of the past? … apologist and New Testament scholar Jeremiah Johnston assures that, even in modern times, God is still very much on the move when it comes to working miracles. … In fact, Johnston says Jesus is making miraculous appearances to Muslims around the world. …
Although many of today's miracles might not unfold in quite the same manner or have the same look as they did when Jesus walked the Earth, the miraculous stories of triumph and perseverance of followers of Christ are occurring like never before, especially within the persecuted Church, says Johnston. The pastor is not at all surprised by God's miraculous move within persecuted churches, recalling a visit to China where he met with a Christian missionary. The missionary and affiliated Christian churches practiced their faith in that country much like persecuted churches did in the book of Acts. In Communist China, many Christians, if they wanted their churches to survive, had to go underground.
"I was in China recently with a missionary who is over 5,000 [other] missionaries in the underground church. He looked at me in Beijing and he said — to both my wife and myself — 'Jeremiah and Audrey,' he said, 'everything you read about in the book of Acts is happening in China right now. The Spirit of God is at work mightily. Everything you read about in the book of Acts — God is doing today,'" he said. …
There is a reason why many Christian Chinese churches have had to go "underground." Many have become targets of the country's Communist regime. Within China's Zhejing province, for example, the Chinese Communist Party aims to supress the growth of organized religion. As a result, the Communist Party launched a campaign to remove crosses from Protestant and Roman Catholic churches across the province, citing that they are in violation of zoning restrictions on building heights.
In one year and-a-half the government has removed 1,200 crosses, much to the dismay of the country's large Christian population of 67 million, as documented by 2011 figures from the Pew Research Center. Of the country's 67 million Christians, Pew estimates that China has 10 million Catholics, half of which belong to the state-sanctioned Chinese Patriotic Catholic Association. Millions more Catholics go to secret churches to worship. A government-approved Protestant Three-Self-Patriotic-Movement accounts for another 23 million people, while 35 million unregistered Protestants exercise their beliefs underground.
While persecuted churches across the globe seem to be full of God's Spirit, Johnston feels like a somewhat lackadaisical western church has fallen asleep at the wheel. "This winded, out of shape church of the West can't figure out if we want to share all the counsel of God's Word. I'm not surprised that God doesn't work as mightily in a church that's fallen asleep and been lulled asleep. ...
We need our Church to be awakened, and we need to have a thinking faith to be awakened — where we can see God do the miraculous and trust Him to do that, and we see that reflected right now in the persecuted Church." Pastor Johnston is confident that God is still very much in the miracle-working business. Christians simply need to open their eyes, he says. "There's not a doubt there are miracles all around us," he told CP. "Sometimes, though, we have our heads in the sand — we just don't see them. We don't give God the glory for them."

ブルンジのフレデリックのその後

ブルンジのフレデリックとは、今年に入ってからもメールのやり取りがずーっと続いていますが、その多くは、彼の信頼喪失挽回の訴えと陳謝でした。
今年4月以降、健康に対する不安の便りが届き祈っていましたが、その後、健康は回復し、心配だった症状も緩和したとのメールを受け、本人をはじめ、執り成し手一同も主が祈りに答えてくださったことを感謝しています。
しかしその後も、フレデリックは、2005年以降、ギランバレー症候群の検査を全く受けていないので、現在の状態を確認するための健診を受けたいと希望しています。
皆さまのお祈りに覚えてください。

イエスのお名前によりご挨拶します。
しばらくごぶさたしてしまいました。
全てのことにおいて、主が良いことをしてくださり、憐みをかけてくださったことに対して、主をほめたたえます。

お知らせしましたように、一週間前にタンザニアのニャルングス難民キャンプに行ってきました。そこには七万人ほどのブルンジの人々が暮らしています。彼らは大変貧しい生活を送っています。

また、以前ご連絡しましたように、査証の許可と経費がまかなわれることを祈ってきましたが、私のベルギー行きの査証が発行されました。ですから更なる健康診断を受けに行こうと思います。
お話ししたように、入院したり、治療を受けたりはしません。ただ、ギランバレー症候群の治癒程度がどれほどなのかをチェックするだけです。

確かに、主はすでに治癒という奇蹟を起こしてくださいました。私は、ギランバレー症候群にかかった人々を多く見てきましたが、私のように癒された人はいません。二年前、その治療のため私はケニヤに行きましたが治療にあたった医師は私に「二十年、医者をやっているが、その間、二人（私を含め）だけが癒された」と言いました。
ですから今回のベルギー行きは治療とか入院ではなく、治癒の度合いを確かめるためのものです。

私に起こった主の奇蹟を再確認させる励ましのe-mailをありがとうございました。
すぐにお返事できなかったのは、日曜日から金曜日までずーっとタンザニアのニャルングスに行っていたからです。

ニャルングスの難民キャンプには、2015年4月以降、およそ七万人のブルンジ人難民がいます。彼らはそこで大変過酷な生活をしています。私たちは、彼らを励まし慰めるために行ってきました。
あれ以降、私はあなたの励ましのe-mailに大いに慰められ、確かに、主が私に奇蹟を起こしてくださったことを信じています。

私たちの主であり救い主、イエスの御名においてご挨拶をします。

 e-mailをありがとうございました。日本で起こった大地震についてお気の毒に思います。

先日のe-mail　では、ベルギーで治療を受けたいことをお話ししましたが、確かにおっしゃるとおり、ベルギーに行くことは高額になります。しかし、ギランバレー症候群で入院後、今までに二回、ケニヤに治療のため行きました。治療にあたってくれた医師はもうそこで働いておらず、二年前（これがケニヤ行き最後だったのですが）、別の専門医を探したのですが、適当な良い神経専門医師を見つけることができませんでした。

私の今の症状は重症ではないので、ベルギー行きは入院のためではなく、通常の健康診断を受け、薬を処方してもらいたいからです。いまのところ、二千ポンド（約三十二万円）が必要です。
事実、二年前に行ったケニヤの神経専門医師は、ケニヤでは良い治療ができないのでヨーロッパに行った方がよいと助言してくれました。ですから、私はベルギーが良いと思ったのです。そこでは一回の診察で十分で、専門医はおそらく最新の医療技術を使って、良い薬を処方し、良いリハビリ運動を教えてくれると思います。

十一年前の癒しの奇蹟をふり返って

もちろん、主が癒してくださることを私は知っています。顧みますと、私がギランバレー症候群を発症したとき、死んだも同然でした。私は全く動けず、指の小さな動きさえできず、まして手足は全く動かせませんでした。しかし、その後、私は歩くことができるようになる奇蹟を体験しました。
私が車いすでケニヤに行くのを見送った人たちはみな、だれもが奇蹟が起こったことを確信したのでした。二十年も、この治療にあたってきた神経専門医師は、ギランバレー症候群でそのような画期的なレベルまでに快復したのは、私を含め、たったの二人だけと言いました。しかし、私は、確かにそのように奇蹟的に快復したのですが、その後も誘発的に引き起こされるいろいろな症状に悩まされてきました。

私が難民として祖国から遠く離れたケニヤにいたとき、主は私の健康を支え、安全を確かにしてくださいました。その同じ主は今も変わらず、私および私の家族がどこにいようと、どんな状態であろうと守ってくださっています。
私と私の家族は、人や、周りの状態を見るのではなく、いつも主に目を留めています。そうでなければ、私たちはまた過去のように他国に逃れることを考えるでしょう。

私たちの主であり救い主、イエス・キリストの御名においてご挨拶します。

お互いにしばらく連絡をとりませんでしたが、皆さんお元気のことと思います。
我が国、ブルンジの混乱にもかかわらず、まだ私たちは生きています。神さまをほめたたえます。

二日前、軍の将軍の一人が午前七時に学校で子どもを降ろそうとしたときに暗殺されました。同乗していた妻子とも即死でした。その場所は私の職場からそれほど遠くなく、私はその現場を五分前に通り過ぎたばかりで、ものすごい銃声が聞こえました。

ところで、私は牧師養成のための資料の翻訳（彼らの言語に翻訳）に忙しくしています。
現在、二つの地域で三つのクラスに分けて教えています。二ヶ月に一度、五日間にわたる実地訓練もします。ここで学んだ牧師たちは三年で卒業します。

以前にもお話したように、最近よく転ぶようになりましたが、それにより怪我をすることはないので神さまに感謝です。私は、もしビザがとれ、健康診断をすることで転倒の原因が判明し、治療が見込めそうであれば、七月の初めにベルギーに行くことを考えています。そのためのお祈りをお願いするとともに、もし許されるなら、ベルギー行きのための航空券購入の資金援助を考慮してくださるようにお願いするしだいです。

私たちの救い主そして主であるイエスキリストのお名前においてご挨拶いたします。

しばらくお互いにお便りをしませんでしたが、お元気のことと思います。私は、解放、救出についての本・資料には今のところ、私が手元に持っている本以外は出会っていません。もしどうしても必要であるなら、手元の本をお送りできます。きっと有用だと思います。

私は、この二～三ヶ月、ときおり、ベッドに寝込んでしまうことがあります。これは十一年前に患ったギランバレー症候群による骨の弱体化が原因ではないかと思われます。七月に、その精密検査（おそらく治療も含む）のためベルギーに行く予定をたてています。どうかお祈り下さい。もしベルギーへの航空券料金を献金願えるようでしたら大変嬉しいのですが・・・・・・・。

愛の資金を牧者たちと分かち合いました

皆さまのお祈りと金銭的サポートをありがとうございます。
お送りいただいた資金は無事に銀行の預金口座に入金になりました。

早速、次の牧師たちに｢愛の資金」として献金しました。

孤島への伝道旅行の延期

さて、今週7月1日から予定していたロンブロンおよびキャピズへの伝道旅行ですが、延期しました。というのは、ウェア　ザンバレスの八十七歳になるタタイ・エウセビオ・パミルヤング氏が亡くなったからです。彼は、2014年、日本のFFN Youthが当地を訪問した際、A姉妹とともに踊り、部族ダンスを披露してくれました。

私の父と、弟それに私が彼の告別式に出席し、翌日は故人をしのんで親交のときを持ちました。私たちは、月曜から水曜（昨日）まで三日間そこに滞在し、その間アエタ部族の牧師、ジム　アブロング師と幾組かの家族にも会ってきました。

私たちは米袋を持参し、四組の大家族にそれぞれ贈り、レイ　アブロング氏（半アエタ族）と妻クララには子豚を贈りました。クララはロンブロン島の出身で、私たちがロンブロン島伝道の折には、案内をしてくれることになっています。

孤島への伝道旅行の準備

親愛なるフルダミニストリーの皆さま       6月21日

フルダミニストリーが新しい局面を迎えていることをお聞きして嬉しく思います。
本当に主はすばらしいことをなさいますね。その新しい試みを通して、より多くの魂が救われますように皆さまのお祈りにあわせてお祈りします。

まだ福音が語られたことのない二つの孤島への伝道旅行

私の伝道旅行についてですが、まだカピズ（Capiz）には行っていません。というのは、カピズのちょうど北に、ロンブロン（Romblon）という島があり、その島には開拓教会があります。カピズとロンブロンはお互いに隣接する島で、船で行くことになります。
私は、同じ時期に、同じ目的で二つの島に行くという、いわば一石二鳥のミニストリーができるように祈っています。ロンブロンのまだ福音が伝わっていない場所には連絡先があり、現在、そこに持参する古着および基本的な必要物資を集めたりしています。

一方、ブラカンとパンガシナンでは引き続き、子ども、大人を対象にした食事会、聖書勉強会を開いています。
私のスケジュールは結構忙しく、この6月14～17日は、ビガン（Vigan）に行き、イメルダとマイケルの二人の牧者を励ましてきました。二人はそれぞれ単立で宣教している牧師で、生活困窮にもめげず、強い信仰の戦いをしています。その報告を、近日中にしたいと思っています。

ロンブロンとカピズ行きについては、新政権がスタート（6月30日）した後にした方が良いと言われているので、私は7月1～12日に船で行こうと考えています。船の方が、荷物をたくさん運べるのです。荷物の中に古教科書を入れます。子どもや親が大変喜ぶからです。私は二人の少年たちを助け手（主に荷物運び）として連れて行こうと思っています。

今回の二つの島を訪問するための交通費を調べ、試算してみました
１． マニラからロンブロンゆき船賃
２． ロンブロンからカピズまでの船賃　　
３．カピズからマニラまでの船賃
４．港に行くまでのバス代、ジープニー代

三人分の交通費の合計だけでもずいぶんかかります。
それに食事会（米と野菜の質素な食事、三百人分）を開催すれば、かなりの出費になります。

私たち自身の食事代はこれまでに送金していただいたミニストリー資金から出したいと思います。ですから、上に述べた人々の食事代と私たちの交通費は新たにご支援いただきたいと思います。

マニラにいる私の友人の牧師によれば、マニラからロンブロンまで船で十二時間かかるとのことです。ロンブロン島の港に着いてから現地のサンノゼまでジープニーでいくことになります。そして、またそこからカピズまで小船で八時間の行程です。

どうか、この二つの孤島への伝道旅行について、お祈りください。

英国のEU離脱は「主が設けられた日」か？

英国の国民投票結果「EU離脱」に対する抗議の波紋は、政治、経済界だけでなく、英国民の一部、特に若い年代層と、かねてから独立を望んでいたスコットランドを中心に広まっている。英国のクリスチャン指導者は、EU離脱が意味する霊的な重大性を国民にどのように伝え、神の御旨へと導いていくことができるだろうか…

主に感謝せよ。主はまことにいつくしみ深い。その恵みはとこしえまで…　
主に身を避けることは、人に信頼するよりもよい。主に身を避けることは、君主たちに信頼するよりもよい。

6月23日に英国で行われた国民投票の結果は、EU離脱派が51.9％、残留派が48.1％で、過半数を占めた離脱派の勝利となり、離脱なら世界経済、政治に重大な影響が及ぶと懸念されていたことが現実のこととなってしまいました。

変化を恐れる人々の希望的観測から世論調査では、投票日直前まで残留派支持が優勢だったようですが、開票結果は予想外で、全開票終了前にすでに英ポンドが1985年以来の最安値に下落したことをはじめ、世界中の金融市場が安定化への対応に追われ、英国のキャメロン首相は辞意を表明し、EU諸国への打撃、動揺は瞬く間に報道されました。離脱を訴えてきた英国独立党の党首が「6月23日は英国民の独立記念日だ」と喜びを表明した一方で、スコットランド民族党の党首は、スコットランドでは62％の住民がEU残留を望んだのに、その意向が反映されなかったとして、英国からの独立を目指す二度目の国民投票に挑むことを表明、一昨年、かろうじてスコットランド独立を留めた英国に再び、国家の分裂という新たな危機がよみがえってきました。

欧州連合EUも、中枢の同盟国、英国の予期しない離脱に、発足以来最大の危機に直面することになりました。今後、EU諸国、各々での国民投票が実施された場合、英国に続く「ドミノ離脱」が起こり、EU自体の分裂、崩壊の可能性も否定できなくなって来たのです。しかし、EUが、黙示録の語る「復興ローマ帝国」、この世最後の世界統一政府機構であるなら、最終的には十国の同盟国に絞られることになり、今回の英国の離脱はその先駆けとみなすことができるかもしれません（『一人で学べるキリストの啓示：「ヨハネの黙示録の預言」』参照）。

英国では、EU離脱か残留かに関するさまざまな預言が教会やクリスチャンに与えられてきましたが、離脱決定後、神のご介入のわざであると神に栄光を帰すクリスチャンがいる一方、見解を異にしたクリスチャンとの統合が乱れ、動揺が隠せないようです。霊的指導者で預言者のクリフォード・ヒルをはじめ、英国の離脱派クリスチャン指導者が重きを置いた預言は、2015年11月17日にデイビット・ノーク氏に与えられた次のものでした。

『英国の民よ。あなたがたが陥った背信と堕落にもかかわらず、わたしは終わりなき愛であなたがたを愛している。わたしの名で偽りを教え、それを信じ、自分たちのように行うようにと勧めてきた教会指導者たちに向けられたわたしの怒りは激しく、彼らに対するわたしの裁きは厳しい。しかし、わたしは、信仰深い羊飼いのいない羊のような者たちを憐れんできた。わたしの心は、その父祖たちがわたしの名を支持し、わたしのことばを地の果てにまでもたらした民に憐れみをかけたいと、なお望んでいる。わたしのことばの真理を信じ、信仰に根づいた掟を作り、霊感によって高潔な文化を築きあげてきた民に。
『あなたがたは、わたし自身とあなたがたに対するわたしの真実とに頼らず、この世的な目的のために、その議会でわたしの名を否定し、わたしを認識することを拒んだ機構と行動をともにするほうを選んだ。わたしのすさまじい怒りは、その反逆、わたしに対する挑戦的な拒絶、わたしのいにしえの民イスラエルに対する頑なな心のゆえに、その機構の上にある。
『わたしは今、あなたがたに、欧州機構が、わたしが災いと破壊をもたらしても悔い改めようとしないことを警告する。わたしはあなたがたを駆り立てる。ああ、あなたがたの信仰深い父祖たちのゆえに、まだわたしに愛されている英国よ。同じ破壊に捕らわれることがないように、彼女（欧州機構）から離れなさい。わたしはもう今にも、彼女が達成しようとしていることを無に帰す裁きを起こそうとしているのだから。もしあなたがたが、神を拒絶することを宣言した彼女から離れるなら、わたしはあなたに憐れみをかけ、わたしの守りの手を戻そう。そして、わたしは、今日どんどん増えている暗やみに失われている多くの者に、光をもたらすために、もう一度あなたがたを用いよう。
『かつて信仰深かった民よ、聞きなさい。わたしの呼びかけに答えなさい。さもなければ、あなたがたも同じ滅びの裁きに自滅するであろう。これはわたしの望むところではない。あなたがたは、どの道をとるのか選ばなければならない。わたしはあなたがたに、もう今にもヨーロッパに来ようとしている災いの下での死ではなく、わたしに応え、わたしの鍛錬の下での生命と守りを選ぶことを勧める。』

英国の霊的指導者やクリスチャンの祈りは「EU離脱が成るように」以上に、「主の御心が成るように」に向けられて来ましたが、その結果、主は憐れみをもって、英国をEUのくびきからの解放へと導いてくださったと、彼らは主に感謝し、さらなる主の指示を仰いでいます。

しかし、英国にもたらされた課題、波紋は予想外に大きく、神の掟からの大きなゆがみを修正し、聖書に基づいた国家を再建する絶好の機会が与えられたとの前向き志向とは裏腹に、国内の反対勢力との平和的統合、EUとの友好関係を保ちつつ経済的自立を構築していかなければならないなど、決して楽な道が開かれたわけではないようです。

キリストは

汚れた霊が人から出て行って、水のない地をさまよいながら休み場を捜しますが、見つかりません。そこで、『出て来た自分の家に帰ろう』と言って、帰って見ると、家はあいていて、掃除してきちんとかたづいていました。そこで、出かけて行って、自分よりも悪いほかの霊を七つ連れて来て、みな入り込んでそこに住みつくのです。そうなると、その人の状態は、初めよりもさらに悪くなります。邪悪なこの時代もまた、そういうことになるのです。（マタイ12：43－45）

と、今の英国が克服しなければならないメッセージを語られました。一つの悪霊のくびきから解放されたと手放しに喜び、心、思いを神の霊「聖霊」で占めることなく野放しにしておくと、すぐに以前より悪い霊どもが入り込み、そのくびき下に置かれたら最後、状態が最初よりはるかに悪くなることを警告されましたが、EUを離脱した英国民も同様、今、これまで以上に多くの悪霊、―人を神から遠ざける働きに従事する悪しき霊― から守られなければならない状態に置かれたのです。

そのためには、キリストのくびきの下に身を置くこと、すなわち、キリストとの正しい関係に歩んでゆかなければならないのです。神の言葉を聞いて、民を導いている聖書的預言者たちの指導力がこれまで以上に求められることになるでしょう。クリフォード・ヒルは、英国民がカンタベリー大司教の指導下、キリストに従う民として結束すること、また、一人ひとりのキリスト者が主との関係を正しくするようにと、奨励しています。

冒頭にあげた詩篇118篇は、多難な問題を抱えながら、新たな門出に立った英国民に送るにふさわしいメッセージではないかと思います。

このくだりは一連のハレルヤ詩篇の最後で、さまざまな声が入り混じった行列の歌です。この世の諸国間の同盟に依存するのではなく、神に信頼する民を神はくびきから解放し、今「広い所」、すなわち、神の掟に則った司法制度を打ちたてるなどの自由の下に置かれました。この詩篇は、敵に滅ぼされそうになり絶望的であったダビデの血筋の王が主に救い出され、王位に戻され、民がその統治を喜び祝う、新しい時代の到来を預言的に仰ぎ見ており、イスラエルの秋の祭り「仮庵の祭り」に関連づけられています。行列が、いけにえをささげる場、主の家への門「義の門」を入るとき、祭りは最高潮に達します。

王と民の背後には、敵愾心に燃えたこの世の脅威がありますが、交唱の形式で表現されているのは、指導者なる王の声とそれに応答する民のさまざまな声です。苦しみのうちから主を呼び求める王の信仰の姿は、王位は軍事、政治、経済力によってではなく、主に依存することによって支えられるとの確信の祈りに表れています。

主の家への道を歩んだ王と民の一行が「義の門」で、祭司たちと神殿の門衛に出迎えられると、「正しい者たち」の行列は、いよいよ祭壇に向かうことになります。王はそこで、神が祈りに答えて自分を救われたことを証しし、民は、神が王を選ばれたこと、また、そのような喜びの日を自分たちに与えてくださったことを祝い、主に感謝するのです。

言うまでもなく、「義の門」に象徴されているのは「わたしは門です。だれでも、わたしを通って入るなら、救われます。また安らかに出入りし、牧草を見つけます」（ヨハネ10：9）と招かれたキリストご自身です。神との正しい関係にある者はだれでも、この門から入り祝福に与ることができるのです。 

「これは、主が設けられた日である。この日を楽しみ喜ぼう」の「この日」は、ユダヤ教では、イスラエルの祭り日、―「過越」、｢ペンテコステ｣、「仮庵」―への言及とされていますが、キリスト教では、キリストがエルサレムに勝利の凱旋をされた日か、キリストの甦りの日とみなされています。

先行する22、23節の聖句「家を建てる者たちの捨てた石。それが礎の石になった。これは主のなさったことだ。私たちの目には不思議なことである」が、キリストご自身がご自分に適用されたメシヤ預言であることと、27節の「主は神であられ、私たちに光を与えられた」が、神がご自分の王を死の暗闇から生命へと救い出されたこと、すなわち、キリストの十字架上での勝利を予兆していることから、｢この日｣はキリストの永久の生命への甦りの日を祝い、神に感謝する日とみなすのが最もふさわしいようです。

英国民には、直面している苦難を信仰によって乗り切り、世界に良い範例を示してもらいたいものです。

The massacre at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida in U.S.on 11th June showed a sign of the country’s spiritual condition....

The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. 

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.   

Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.   

Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.   

Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.   ROMANS 1:18-32.

The massacre at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history which took place late in the evening of Saturday, 11th June, ‘16 has captured the world’s attention. Many comments were reported. According to The Cap Times, Rev. Franklin Graham, the evangelist and son of the Rev. Billy Graham opened the rally in Madison, Wisconsin on Wednesday 15th June, with a prayer for the victims of the Orlando shooting, which killed 49 and injured 53. He said that America brought the mass shooting upon itself because it has become a “godless nation” and he asserted it to be a “symptom” of the country’s spiritual condition.

The preacher has warned gay people "that if they want to continue living like this, it's the flames of hell for you," and has said gay people cannot belong to the Christian faith. When it was announced this year that President Barack Obama planned to designate the area near the Stonewall Inn in New York as a national monument recognizing the struggle for gay rights, Graham called it a "monument to sin." Asked Wednesday whether he believes Christians who believe homosexuality is wrong should reconsider that stance in light of the violence in Orlando, Graham said his position is what the Bible teaches — that is, that homosexuality and sex outside of marriage are sins. "But the bible also teaches us that we’re all sinners, and I’m not here saying that a homosexual is a greater sinner than Franklin Graham. They’re not. We both deserve death, and that’s the penalty for a sinner, is death," Graham told reporters after the rally. Graham said he wants gays and lesbians to know God loves them and wants to forgive sin. "I love the gay community enough to tell the truth, and not tell them a lie," Graham said. "I’m going to tell them the truth, and if they would repent and believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, they’ll have that same hope that I have”. He also said: Some atheists held signs that said, “I'm not afraid to burn in hell.” That is very sad — one day they will change their minds. The Bible says that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Every person is going to face eternity in either Heaven or Hell. The following is an analysis by Dr. William Welty, which I have found important and worthy of notice. He points out the fact that certain members of Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas were quick to comment to the Orland attack, bluntly stating WBC is unapologetic in its advocacy of putting homosexuals to death, while Islam also teaches the killing of homosexuals in the Qur’an. He argues that the difference between the two factions is that WBC believes the executions should be carried out by the state, whereas Islam delegates the carrying out executions of homosexuals to every believer, and that for Islam, killing homosexuals is an individual’s duty before Allah, while for WBS, it should be the duty of government.

However, Welty puts it:

WBC and Islam get it wrong. The reason God’s divine, catastrophic judgments are recorded in Scripture isn’t because that’s the way he acts in human history. Quite the opposite—the records are there to let us know how serious God is when we are warned about the eternal nature of sin, and how it cries out to God for eternal retribution that cannot be remedied apart from the redemptive grace of God’s own Son. The flood of Noah’s day and the destruction of Sodom, Gomorrah, and the Cities of the Plain recorded in the book of Genesis, the destruction of Jerusalem and the captivity of Israel recorded in the Chetubim (Ketuvim) of the Hebrew Scriptures are reminders to us that God hates sin.

But the normative policy of God in judging sin is to let the consequences of godless behavior reap its harvest in due time. In short, the abandonment wrath of God is the normative way in which the judgment of God works in the life of an individual or in the culture of a nation. The first chapter of the book of Romans addresses that in some detail as we’ll note below. The eternal aspects of the judgment of God go to work in eternity, not necessarily in the present time domain. When applied to nation states, the abandoned nation state collapses from within. Carthage, ancient Greece, the Babylonian empire, the Roman Empire, and (if we do not repent) the United States as well, are historic examples of the abandonment wrath of God at work in His world. As it is today, America stands at the brink of reaping the consequences of the abandonment wrath of God.

In sum, we suggest that God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah violently as an object lesson for us, upon whom the end of the ages has come. Except for the case of those cities of the Plain described in the book of Genesis and the judgment of national Israel by the Babylonians and by the Romans, most historians can cite only one other instance in history in which God catastrophically destroyed a city by what would otherwise seem to have been “natural” means. (At this juncture, I’m inclined also to cite the example of Pompeii, the hometown of Roman general Titus, who destroyed Jerusalem, God’s adopted “hometown,” so to speak. A few years after Titus destroyed God’s home town, God destroyed Titus’ home town of Pompeii by means of a volcanic eruption.) …

When administered by divine wisdom, divine judgment can bring about repentance. This principle works for a nation and a culture just as surely as it does for the individual. As long as we live in that certain unique dimension called Time, change is possible. In eternity, change is no longer an option. We can neither grow nor repent. We have become what we will always be. For the damned, it means they can never be changed. Nor can the righteous fall. Human wrath, such as is practiced by Islam toward homosexual behavior or as urged to be carried out by members of WBS, can never work the divine judgment of God, since neither postures work to display the possibility of repentance. It is to this issue, therefore, that we address the rest of our remarks. In short, attitudes toward both sins that came to the forefront of public attention during the Orlando attack are not extended the opportunity for repentance that God’s grace demands: neither the sinful murderer not the sinful victims would be given such opportunity if the WBS posture were adopted here in the West. In the passage of Romans Chapter 1 as quoted in the beginning, Paul the Apostle condemned the pagan world for three reasons, the first of which is the suppression of God’s truth, the second is the ignorance of His natural revelation, and the third is the perversion of His glory. The wrath of God is being revealed in opposition to human sinfulness such as godlessness and wickedness. Everywhere in the universe, God’s creation reveals evidence of His design, reflecting His unseen character, but man chose to ignore this, and so all men are without excuse. Although people knew God they rejected the clearly visible evidence of God as the sovereign Creator, and turned their perversion into idolatry. With such willful rebellion against God, their thinking and hearts became futile and immoral as Paul expressed in Ephesians 4:18-19,

They are darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.

The Psalmist declared:

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise (Psalm 111:10).

However, when the knowledge of the true and living God is refused, false gods inevitably fill the vacuum, and those who worship idols of stone, wood and so on become like the gods they worship as Psalm 115 depicts:

But their idols are silver and gold, made by human hands. …Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who trust in them (v.4-8).

On the contrary, if we worship the true God, Christ, we are all promised to become like Him as depicted in Ro. 8:29,

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters (Emphasis added).

Although God loves sinners and He desires their salvation, He hates sin and so, He judges it. In the passage above, the following phrase is repeated three times: ‘God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity’ (v24), ‘God gave them over to shameful lusts’ (v26), and ‘God gave them over to a depraved mind’ (v28). This describes God’s wrath in this world, in a sense as a warning, referring not to the final damnation but that of the at-present-loss. In other words, God allows men to go their own way as His present judicial action on earth until the time of judgment at the great white throne, where there will be no liberty left for men to indulge themselves in lusts as in this present world. Because of man’s continual, willful and impenitent rebellion against God with a depraved mind and lifestyle, God’s responding judgment for the present is expressed to be abandonment to their desires, but their attitudes and actions of which are utterly unacceptable to God.

If they repent, however, God’s grace is still available for them, but if not, the consequence will be found in a solemn prophecy of what would be at the close of time, i.e., at the Second Coming of Christ, which is expressed in Re.22:11,

Let the one who does wrong continue to do wrong; let the vile person continue to be vile; let the one who does right continue to do right; and let the holy person continue to be holy.

John Gill comments on this verse in the following way;

The meaning of this expression is, he that is now found without a righteousness, and full of all unrighteousness, and acts unrighteously, will continue so; there will be no change made in him, no regeneration, renovation, repentance, or reformation; he will remain the same wicked man he ever was; or he that hurts, or does injury to his fellow creatures, will still do mischief; at least he will have the same inclination, though not the opportunity and power, but will attempt it, of which there will be an instance in the wicked dead, when raised. … all mankind are originally, naturally, and universally filthy, or defiled with sin. Some are cleansed from it by the blood of Christ, others are not; and these will continue polluted, nor will the fire of hell fetch out the filthiness of their hearts and nature: or the words may be rendered, "he that defileth, let him defile still"; though he will not be able to defile the temple of God, or corrupt the good communications of the saints, yet he will continue to defile himself; the same evil thoughts will proceed out of him as ever, which defile the man.

Apostle Paul, stressing ‘now’, urged people that now that salvation through Christ was preached, it should be brought home to all sinners’ souls by the ministration of the gospel, in which sinners were convinced of their need of salvation and made to submit to Christ:

As God’s co-workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain. For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation (2Co.6-1-2, Line added).

It is important for all sinners to turn to God now, because the Greek words used in verse 29 in Ro.1, ‘wickedness, evil, greed and depravity’ can become manifest outwardly more specifically as ‘envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice’. As such, Christ warned that the evil in the heart births evil actions in time. The call of God is for man to turn from their habitual, sinful lifestyle against Him and to be cleansed from the inside out.
