MOSES' PENITENTIAL PSALM

Why does God allow terrible natural disasters to cause serious humanitarian catastrope? The insight fro the answer is found in the Bible, God's Word.

― The five books of Psalms correspond to the five books of the "Torah".The fourth book of Psalms corresponding to the book of Numbers, begins with Psalm 90, one of the so-called "penitential psalms", where Moses urges us the importance of the awarenese of numbering our days aright, so that we may gain a heart of wisdom ―

1. Lord, you have been our dwelling-place throughout all generations.
2. Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the whole world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
3. You turn people back to dust, saying, ‘Return to dust, you mortals.’
4. A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.
5. Yet you sweep people away in the sleep of death – they are like the new grass of the morning:
6. In the morning it springs up new, but by evening it is dry and withered.
7. We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation.
8. You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
9. All our days pass away under your wrath; we finish our years with a moan.
10. Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.
11. If only we knew the power of your anger! Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due.
12. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
13. Relent, LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on your servants.
14. Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.
15. Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, for as many years as we have seen trouble.
16. May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendour to their children.
17. May the favour of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us – yes, establish the work of our hands.

PSALM 90. ― A prayer of Moses the man of God ―

This oldest psalm by Moses is presumed to have been written after the desertion of faith at Kadesh Barnera when the twelve spies explored the promised land of Canaan. As a consequence, the Israelites wandered in the desert for the next thirty eight years until the entire generation died. Over two million Israelites died in the desert, including Moses himself, before entering the promised land. Moses wrote this psalm of death while witnessing a lot of people dying.

The Psalms are divided into five books and from ancient times many attempts have been made to discover the reason for it. The comparison between the Psalms and the “Torah” (Five books from Genesis to Deuteronomy) have for long been noted by scholars, which shows that Psalms Chapters 1-41 corresponds to ‘Genesis’, Psalms 42-72 corresponds to ‘Exodus’, Psalms 73-89 corresponds to ‘Leviticus’, Psalms 90-106 corresponds to ‘Numbers’, and Psalms 107-150 to ‘Deuteronomy’.

Linking the five books of Psalms with the five books of Moses, H.A.Ironside wrote in his commentary on the Psalms: ‘ Our Bible begins with the Pentateuch, from Genesis to Deuteronomy; and the entire Bible…seems to be built upon that Pentateuchal foundation. The book of Genesis is the book of life and the book of election; the book of Exodus is the book of redemption; Leviticus is the book of sanctification; Numbers is the book of testing and experience; Deuteronomy is the book of divine government…the remarkable thing is that in the first book of the Psalms the great outstanding themes are Divine Life and Electing Grace―God’s wonderful provision of grace, just the same as in the book of Genesis…In the second book of the Psalms the great outstanding theme is redemption, as in Exodus. In the third book of the Psalms we are occupied with sanctification, communion with God, the way into the sanctuary, as in the book of Leviticus, The fourth book is the darkest one, for it is the book of testing, the book of trial, as in Numbers. Many of these psalms have to do with bitter, hard experiences that the people of God often have to go through in this world. And then the last book of Psalms is the book that brings God in as overruling in all the trials, the difficulties, and perplexities―the divine government, as in the book of Deuteronomy―God bringing everything out at last to His honor and glory and to His people’s eternal blessing’ (‘Studies on the Psalms’, Loizeaux, p4-6.) .

This Pentateuchal chronological pattern (1. the preparation of the land, 2. the return of the wandering Jews, 3. the restoration of Temple worship, 4. the period of tribulation, and 5. the messianic Kingdom, each of which corresponds to the book of the “Torah”: 1. Genesis, 2. Exodus, 3. Leviticus, 4. Numbers, and 5. Deuteronomy, respectively) may also be applied to the present and coming future events, ―from the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948 to the coming messiah’s Kingdom on earth. That is, after the recognition of the Jewish State in the Promised Land as a nation in 1948, the Jews have begun to return to their own land, and presently they have almost resumed Temple worship in Jerusalem. Next up would be a phase corresponding to the forth book of Numbers, the period of tribulation. The book of Numbers records great tragedy of a generation dying in the wilderness as a consequence of disobedience and unfaithfulness and so, it is very appropriate that the forth book of the Psalms, whose theme is peril and trial, begins with Psalm 90, one of the so-called “penitential psalms”, where the ancient Israelites cried out to God for His mercy. Finally, this phase would be followed by the emergence of the most graceful phase of messianic Kingdom by their long awaited Messiah Jesus Christ.

The opening message of Psalm 90, as quoted at the beginning, describes a peaceful relationship with God, in which the privilege of a reconciled people is to dwell with Him. Then in the following verse the eternal is contrasted with the transient. Man is destined to turn to dust, the very fabric of earth in the end, and return to the Creator. All man’s work and achievement in this world perish as quickly as a sweeping flood. The Psalmist reminds us of the divine principle that it is man’s sin that has brought death, and that because of man’s sinfulness God is angry. That is why man’s life is as short as grasses withering away within a day under the scorching Canaanite sun. Even a short span of man’s life is filled with trouble and moaning because man’s secret sin on earth is all exposed before God in heaven.

Ancient rabbinical thought has it that each day of creation prophetically represents a thousand years of human history and that the seventh day of rest represents the messianic age. In other words, at the close of the sixth millennium when human history is completed, the seventh millennium will be ushered in as the day of everlasting Sabbath. As we have almost arrived at the last decade of the sixth millennium, this rabbis’ teaching will soon be tested. Peter also taught: ‘With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day…But the day of the Lord will come like a thief’ (2Pe.3:8-10), and so everyone should be watchful. In this passage Peter warns us to come to the Lord with repentance as well.

If Peter and this rabbinical concept correctly reflect Moses’ meaning in Psalm 90, we would presently be in the final ‘watch in the night’ (v.4). Christ also referred to this concept: ‘“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him’ (Mt.24:42-44). When the entire world enters a spiritual sleep and the day of the Lord comes ‘like a thief’, it will be taken by surprise.

Moses lived to 120 years, Joshua, 110, and David, 70. In verse 10, why did Moses write that a lifespan could be seventy or eighty, when he himself had a much longer lifespan? He might have prophetically referred to a lifespan of the last generation who would see the restoration of Jerusalem and messianic Kingdom. After two thousand years of exile since the first century CE, in the last century CE, Israel revived as a nation and indeed, the concluding days of the sixth millennium are at hand. Aware that the Jews have not been forsaken forever, despite having experienced punishment for their disobedience, Moses continues with a plea for the Lord: ‘Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Relent, LORD! How long will it be? Have compassion on your servants’. The merciful God always calls for repentant sinners to return and He is ready to accept them.

According to rabbinical interpretation, the verses beyond 14, to the end of Psalm 90 are regarded as a reference to the messianic era, and Dorash Moshe puts it: ‘The blessing of the Temple and the Tabernacle is not confined to Israel. Rather, it is the factor which lends solidarity and prosperity to the entire world. We pray that God return to this world and establish His blessed presence for all time’. Many believe that the hardest thing to manage properly in our lives is the stewardship of time, which would be a supreme test of our discipline. The fact that Psalmist asks the Lord to let us know our priorities in our lives, is significant. Our priorities of time indicate our sense of value. If we could see the present in perspective we would make the most of our lives in accordance with the Lord’s will.

For the past several years we have been watching a drastic change of worldwide weather pattern. While in some parts of the world extreme heat wave continues, in other parts such as New Mexico in the US this month, not only snow but record breaking size of hail has been reported in the midst of the summer (http://www.weather.com/news/two-feet-hail-new-mexico-town-20130704). In Japan, the death toll related to heat disorder has markedly increased in the last few years, especially among the elderly people.

According to the Independent News, water scarcity has become a growing problem in the Middle East, East Africa and the US.: ‘Although the Middle East has experienced water scarcity for quite some time, Jay Famiglietti, principal investigator of a recently published Nasa study, has said that there was an "alarming rate of decrease in total water storage in the Tigris and Euphrates river basins, which currently has the second fastest rate of groundwater storage loss on Earth, after India". With tensions already high in this region, water scarcity could become another cause of conflict.

Sub-Saharan Africa is one of the driest regions in the world. East Africa, in particular the Nile River basin, has seen conflict rise over who controls fresh water supplies. Due to limited resources, the Sudanese civil war between 1983 and 2005 became a struggle over territory, which in turn led to conflicts over water supplies. The impact on the population and irrigation of the country would be substantial. After 22 years of fighting, 400,000 people were killed and 2.5 million were displaced from their homes.

Water cleanliness is an issue that is having considerable impact on sub-Saharan Africa. According to the charity WaterAid, 16.4 million people in Kenya and 43.4 million people in Ethiopia don't have access to safe water. The US is also facing significant strain on fresh-water supplies. According to WaterSense, a partnership program of the US Environmental Protection Agency: "Nearly every region of the country has experienced water shortages. At least 36 states are anticipating local, regional, or state-wide water shortages" this year, "even under non-drought conditions". Water scarcity was recently addressed by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who warned that by 2030 nearly half the world's population could be facing a scarcity of water, with demand outstripping supply by 40 per cent’.

It warns of the seriousness of what is going on in Gaza Strip as well: ‘The Gaza Strip, a tiny wedge of land jammed between Israel, Egypt and the Mediterranean sea, is heading inexorably into a water crisis that the United Nations says could make the Palestinian enclave uninhabitable in just a few years…The Gaza Strip, governed by the Islamist group Hamas and in a permanent state of tension with Israel, is not the only place in the Middle East facing water woes. A Nasa study of satellite data released this year showed that between 2003 and 2009 the region lost 144 cubic kilometres of stored freshwater – equivalent to the amount in the Dead Sea – making a bad situation much worse. But the situation in Gaza is particularly acute, with the UN warning that its sole aquifer might be unusable by 2016, with the damage potentially irreversible by 2020. Between 5 and 10 per cent only of the aquifer's water is safe to drink, but even this can mix with poor-quality water during distribution, making it good only for washing’ (REUTERS SUNDAY 30 JUNE 2013).

Why does God allow such terrible natural disasters to cause serious humanitarian catastrophe? Everybody believes that if He is truly in control, God must be able to control the weather and hence, natural disasters. If He is truly gracious, it seems unthinkable that God should allow so many people to die as a result of things under His control. The insight for the answer is found in the Bible, God’s Word as explored above. All is the result of the natural laws, which God created and within which periodical earthquakes, hurricanes, typhoons, volcanic activities or tsunamis are allowed. It is God’s sovereign way to use the forces of nature to call our attention so that we would turn to Him with repentance, and also as a means of judgment, or to bring about His greater goodness, although we cannot fully understand the reason why a particular natural disaster could fall upon a particular place and person.

聖書が語る、死に備えての生き方とは?

主よ。あなたは代々にわたって私たちの住まいです。山々が生まれる前から、あなたが地と世界とを生み出す前から、まことに、とこしえからとこしえまであなたは神です。

あなたは人をちりに帰らせて言われます。「人の子らよ、帰れ。」まことに、あなたの目には、千年も、きのうのように過ぎ去り、夜回りのひとときのようです。あなたが人を押し流すと、彼らは、眠りにおちます。朝、彼らは移ろう草のようです。朝は、花を咲かせているが、また移ろい、夕べには、しおれて枯れます。

七月二十五日の厚生労働省の発表で、去年、日本人の平均寿命は男性が79.94歳で過去最高齢に達し、女性は86.41歳で、二年ぶりに世界一位に返り咲いたことが分かりました。平均寿命が公表されている主な国や地域との比較では、日本女性の平均寿命はおととし香港を下回り二位になったことを除けば、それ以前は二十六年連続で世界一位でした。日本人男性の平均寿命は世界五位で、2011年三月の東日本大震災や2010年夏場の猛暑の影響で二年間、日本人の平均寿命は低下したものの、三年ぶりに上昇に転じたとのことです。厚生労働省は、医療技術の進歩や自殺者の減少をその要因とし、今後も平均寿命が延びる、明るい見通しを立てています。世界的にかつてなかったような天災、人災、異常な気象現象に見舞われている昨今、これは確かに希望を与えるニュースですが、現実にはこの世は今、どのような行く末に向かっているのでしょうか。

神はノアの大洪水の後現れた、悪が一掃された大地にノアの家族八人を送りだし、祝福して「生めよ。ふえよ。地に満ちよ」（創世記9：1）と言われました。このときから、御言葉通り、今日のアジア、ヨーロッパ、アフリカ、アメリカ、オセアニアの五大陸に人類は増え広がりました。しかし、二十世紀半ばから、特に開発途上国において、この勧告に逆行する傾向が出はじめ、その結果、人口統計学上、目立った変化が起こっているといいます。たとえば、ヨーロッパでは、他のどの人口統計上のグループよりもイスラム教圏、イスラム教徒の出生率が急速に増えており、このため、ヨーロッパ大陸の経済的、社会的、霊的構成が大きく変わってきています。世界の人口統計学での今世紀にかけての大きな変化は、出生率の低下と平均寿命の増加に起因するもので、今日、先進国では女性の多くは単身で自活する道を選び、自分の生涯設計に合う男性が現れたら結婚するか、あるいは、伝統的な家庭環境が許されれば、多くの子を生み、育てることに従事するかの道を選ぶ傾向にあるといいます。昨今の結婚観、男女の役割や仕事、家庭、子育てに対する考え方の変化は世界人口特性に多大な影響を与え、先進国の人口更新率（人口を維持するために必要な出生率）は2.1ですが、世界人口のほぼ半分を占める国々での出生率はこれ以下の数値とのことです。

合計特殊出生率（TFR：厚生労働省「人口動態統計」における指標で、 一人の女性が一生の間に生む子どもの数の目安）が人口更新率を下回ると、その国の人口は高齢化することになり、しかも、一家族の子ども数が減る一方で、人々の寿命は長くなっているので、世界の平均年齢はますます高くなる傾向にあります。百年前までは、人間史のほとんどの時代、高齢者が世界人口に占める割合は3－4％であったそうですが、今日では15％近くで、二十一世紀半ばまでには、25％に達すると言われています。ヨーロッパでは35％、アジアでは、40％近くにもなると予測されているのです。

同時に、ほとんどの先進国では、人口が急激な下降線に差しかかることが予測されています。他方で、予測される高齢者の慢性病対策にかかる出費の増加は、労働力となる社会の若年層の肩に重くのしかかることになるとの予想が、今世紀の人口統計学上の見通しです。開発途上国では、先進国に比べれば、平均年齢ははるかに若いのですが、それでも高齢化に向かっていることに変わりはなく、メキシコも2040年までには、米国と同じような人口構成ピラミッドになると予測されています。中国も、富国になるにつれ出生数の減少が予測され、1979年以降実施されるようになった「一家庭一子政策」の成果が目に見えて現われはじめているのです。しかし、この政策は、強制的な中絶、女児嬰児殺し、女児誕生の非申告という非人道的な大きな犠牲の上で達成されているもので、この人口統計変化と不動産バブルと融資急増が同時に起これば、金融危機の可能性は高まると予測され、「中国は富国化する前に、高齢化する国家である」と言われています。

神不在のこの世が築き上げてきた社会構造は、多くの面で挑戦を受けています。不死を求めての探求がいろいろな方法で追求され、医療技術の進歩で長寿を全うする人々が確実に増えている一方で、人々が直面しなければならない現実は、平均寿命を過ぎると、急激に死に向かっての人生の終焉が迫ってくることへの「備え」です。これは被造物にすぎない人間、だれでも自覚しなければならない現実であるにもかかわらず、なぜか回避されてきている話題です。マスコミをにぎわしているのは、生きることへの話題ばかりです。

しかしながら、神の言葉『ヨハネの黙示録』が明確に預言しているように、人々が時期尚早に人生を終えることになるような予期しない災いが突如として襲う終末末期の時代に生きている私たちは老若無関係にだれでも、死に備えて生きなければならないのです。健康維持、長寿嗜好のこの世の視点とは正反対に、長寿を全うして死を迎えることになろうと、短命で人生を終えることになろうと、全人類に「死に備える生き方」を教えているのは、「あなたの若い日に、あなたの創造者を覚えよ。災いの日が来ないうちに。また、『何の喜びもない』と言う年月が近づく前に」（伝道者の書12：1）と勧告している聖書だけです。

冒頭に引用した詩篇の中でモーセは、「あなたの目には、千年も、きのうのように過ぎ去り、夜回りのひとときのようです」と、「永遠の神」と比べ、被造物にすぎない「死すべき人」の人生がいかにはかないかを表現しましたが、神の御前に生きることの真の意味を悟っていた使徒パウロは、すでに二千年前、「あなたがたは、今がどのような時か知っているのですから、このように行いなさい。あなたがたが眠りからさめるべき時刻がもう来ています。というのは、私たちが信じたころよりも、今は救いが私たちにもっと近づいているからです……日を守る人は、主のために守っています。食べる人は、主のために食べています……私たちの中でだれひとりとして、自分のために生きている者はなく、また自分のために死ぬ者もありません。もし生きるなら、主のために生き、もし死ぬなら、主のために死ぬのです。ですから、生きるにしても、死ぬにしても、私たちは主のものです。キリストは、死んだ人にとっても、生きている人にとっても、その主となるために、死んで、また生きられたのです……私たちは、おのおの自分のことを神の御前に申し開きすることになります」（ローマ人13：11－14：12）と、勧告しました。一言で言えば、キリストによる救い、―キリストの十字架上での死による個々人の罪の贖い、― を信じる信仰に生きる人の生命、人生は自分のものではなくキリストのものであり、この世の生死、―生まれ持った肉の身体の有無―  に関係なく、福音を受け入れた人の霊はその瞬間から「キリストのゆえに生きる」道を歩み始めることを説いたのでした。

モーセは、「死の詩篇」「悔い改めの詩篇」とも呼ばれる詩篇90篇で、神の御旨に逆らう「罪」のゆえに人が神から引き離され、肉の身体の死はじめ、病、労苦、悲嘆、災いが人生にもたらされるようになったこと、そのことを通して神は人が悔い改め、神との最初の関係に立ち返ることを望んでおられること、この世での人の寿命は神の摂理によって七十歳から八十歳に定められたので、人は「自分の日を正しく数えることを教えてください。そうして私たちに知恵の心を得させてください」と、束の間の人生を神に受け入れられるように賢く生きる必要があることを祈りの形で語っています。

人は神を受け入れ従うとき、大きな祝福の中に入れられるのです。この世での人生が労苦に満ち、病や死の恐怖にさらされるのは、神から離れた人の罪のせいで、主は人を見捨てられたのではないこと、「帰って来てください。主よ」と悔い改めて主による贖いを求めるとき、信じる者は自らの努力によってではなく、ただ神の恩寵によって主との正しい関係に戻され、「私たちの手のわざを確かなものにしてください」と表現されているように、人の努力、達成が百パーセント実る神の御国、―主イエス・キリストの再臨によって始まるメシヤの時代― に入ることになるのです。

このようにして、人は創造時の神との親密な交わりに戻されることになります。使徒ペテロも「愛する人たち。あなたがたは、この一事を見落としてはいけません。すなわち、主の御前では、一日は千年のようであり、千年は一日のようです。主は、ある人たちがおそいと思っているように、その約束のことを遅らせておられるのではありません。かえって、あなたがたに対して忍耐強くあられるのであって、ひとりでも滅びることを望まず、すべての人が悔い改めに進むことを望んでおられるのです。しかし、主の日は、盗人のようにやって来ます」（ペテロ第二3：8－10）と、今、愛と忍耐の神が多くの罪人に悔い改めの機会を与えてくださっていること、しかし、主の裁きの日は間違いなく、しかも一瞬の間に到来することを勧告しています。

フルダミニストリーの皆さま

主イエスキリストの御名によりご挨拶します。

私の祖父は今、ケソンシティーの病院の一般病棟にいます。

管（くだ）を通して食事をとっている状態です。

7月2日から医師が勧める食事（この食事は高額で１日当たり6,500フィリピンペソ＝約1万6千円）をしています。

また手術以来、アルブミン（タンパク質の一種）摂取と輸血を続けています。

祖父は五人の子どもを儲（もう）けました。

私の母は長女、伯父は2011年4月に交通事故で亡くなり、

一番若い伯父は2003年に銃で撃たれマヒ状態、もう一人の伯父は農業従事で五人の子持ち、叔母は学校の教師で五人の子どもがいます。

私の母と、伯父、叔母たちはできるかぎりのことをして（祖父所有の牛の売却など）入院、治療費用を捻出（ねんしゅつ）しています。

明日、祖父はパンガシナン(Pangasinan)にある、自分の家に戻り、自宅療養を始める予定です。祖父の病状は確かに良くなっており、排便は定期的にあり、自分で座ることができるようになりました。
医師の話しでは、祖父と同じ病気の高齢者の手術の成功率は10％ということです。
しかし自宅療養でも引き続き、管を通しての食事が必要になります。
どうか、食事代を含め医療費が賄（まかな）えるようお祈りください。

私の母は六十三歳で、腰を痛めていますし、弟と私は大病院を回り、良い薬を買いに走ったりしてストレスがたまり、従兄弟たちも交代で祖父の面倒をみたりで、みな、非常に疲れています。どうか私たちの健康も主によって守られ、支えられますよう合わせお祈りくだされば幸いです。

あとがき

メアリー・ジェーンの6月末の手紙では、おじいさまは内臓摘出を含む大手術をしなければ生きられないとのことで、手術に臨むことになったのですが、高齢であることから、複雑な手術は無理で自然に任せることを医者が勧め、その道を選ぶことになった旨、お伝えしました。
しかし、おじいさまの痛みとの戦いを見ることは辛いものがありました。そこで、盲腸と胃の一部を取り除く、比較的簡易の手術をすれば、痛みを緩和することができることが分かり、その手術を決行しました。
結果は大成功で、おじいさまは、あと二年は十分に生きられると、医者から太鼓判が
押されました。術後の快復ぶりも驚くべきで、主が祈りを聞き、生命の道を開いてくださったことは疑う余地がありません。

ところが、今度は新たな問題に直面することになったのです。
術後から始まった特別食を続けなければならないことと、かさむ医療費支払いの問題です。おじいさまの手術代を捻出するだけでも財政的に限界だったのに、おそらく考えもしなかった出費に振り回される事態になってしまったのです。
術後二十日たった現在、おじいさまは自宅に戻り、身内の人たちが交代で、お世話をしているとのことですが、おじいさまの認知状態は日によって大きく異なり、悪いとき、良いときの非常な差が生じているとのことです。主が、特別食への依存から早くおじいさまを解放してくださるよう、どうぞお祈りに覚えてください。

メアリー・ジェーンだけでなく、このような問題の板挟みになって悩んでおられる方々は多いにちがいありません。
不死を目標とするこの世の傾向は、飛躍的な医療の進歩、最新工学の助けによって、身体の部品を交換しながら生き続けることを理想としますが、聖書はそのようには語っていません。人はだれでも一度死ななければならないことを明確にしています。
高齢になって身体の死を迎えることは自然現象で、だれにでも訪れる神の摂理です。もちろん、全知全能の神は、奇蹟や病の完全な癒しを、ご自分が御旨とされるときにはいつでも、人知をはるかに超えて起こすことのできる方です。そのような例は今日でも確かに起こっています（シンガポールの牧者に起こった癒しの証しをご覧ください!）。
しかし、人類の救い主イエス・キリストが地上に戻って来られるまでは、奇蹟的な癒しで生命（いのち）永（なが）らえさせられた人をも含め、今生きている者はみな死ぬことが定まっています。
この世の生命がすべてと信じている人たちがこの世の生に執着することは仕方のないことですが、聖書を信じるキリスト者は異なった考え方をすることのできる唯一の群れです。キリストの群れは、死後の真の希望、永遠の生命の約束に生きているのです。

人間には、一度死ぬことと死後にさばきを受けることが定まっている……

ヘブル人への手紙　9：27

わたし（キリスト）は彼ら（牧者なるキリストに従う羊の群れ）に永遠のいのちを与えます。彼らは決して滅びることがなく、また、だれもわたしの手から彼らを奪い去るようなことはありません。

ヨハネ10：28

事実、わたしの父のみこころは、子を見て信じる者がみな永遠のいのちを持つことです。わたしはその人たちを終わりの日によみがえらせます。」

ヨハネ6：40

聖書は、神が私たちの願い、祈りに答えて、ご自身の御旨ではないことも許してくださることがあることを語っています。しかしその結果、人は思いもかけない問題に巻き込まれることになりますが、同時に、神は人の過ち、自己中心的な思いからの願いに対しても祝福の道を備えてくださる愛の神であることを、聖書は証ししています。
数多くある中で、アブラハムの例を取りあげてみますと、イスラエルの族長アブラハムが、神の約束を自分の力で成就させようとした結果、生まれたのがイシュマエルでしたが、神はイシュマエルをも祝福し「大いなる国民」とされたのでした（創世記15章－18：15、21章－21、25：12－18）。

神は祈り求める者に、必ず道を備えてくださいます。
八方ふさがりとしか思えないときにも、キリスト者には、祈って神の憐れみにすがる方法が備えられているのです。

主イエス・キリストの御名によりブルンジの地から皆さんにご挨拶します。
ずいぶん長く、手書きによる手紙を書きませんでした。お許しください。
神はいつも私たちに良くしてくださいます。

思い返しますと、私は十カ月、英国の聖書学校で聖書を学び1994年12月に祖国、
ブルンジに帰りました。
帰ってみると、祖国は民族間の内戦で荒廃し、あちこちが、がれきの山と化して
いました。
妻と娘に再会した最初の夜、私たちの家に手榴弾が投げ込まれましたが、主は
ほむべきかな、友人が私たちを救い出し、私たちは無傷でそこを逃れ、より静かな
場所に移り、他の家族と一緒に三カ月過ごしました。

1995年3月、私たちは「ブルンジを離れなさい」という主の声をはっきり聞いたので、主の声に従い、隣国ケニヤに向かいました。結局、ケニヤでは難民として十一年間、過ごすことになりました。
今でも良く覚えていますが、1995年9月にフルダ・ミニストリーと最初の連絡をとることができました。その時以来、フルダ・ミニストリーが私たち家族と私のミニストリーを金銭面、物質面などで支援してくださっていることを本当に感謝いたします。
それはあたかも、イゼベルから逃れたエリヤが干ばつの折、ツァレファテの地で養われたかのようです（旧約聖書列王記第一17章1節～24節）。
神さまが、そのことを覚えて、フルダ・ミニストリーをさらに祝してくださるようにお祈りします。

私は、以前、売りに出されたある土地のことを、皆さまにお知らせしました。その土地を購入すれば、穀物を育てることにより、私の家族維持および教会の建設ができると考えたからです。しかし残念ながら手元に十分な資金がなく、買うことができませんでした。
ここブルンジでは土地購入の際は十分にその土地についてチェックをして、注意を払って購入しなければなりません。というのは、今でも十六万二千人のブルンジ人がタンザニアで難民生活を送っています。彼らが帰還したときには、（戦争のため）今は更地になってしまった彼ら所有の土地は当然、彼らのものになるからです（タンザニア政府は難民にもタンザニアの市民権を与えるという方針をとっていましたが、現在はその方針を撤回しています）。

フルダ・ミニストリーから、過去三台の車を寄贈していただき、感謝しています。うち一台はダンプトラックでした。残念ながら使用してから八日目に土砂崩れに遭遇し大破してしまいました。
教会建設は西洋では減少していますがアフリカでは教会は成長しています。ダンプトラックを所有することにより、土砂、セメント、鋼材などが安価で運べ、教会建設が容易になります。このことについてもどうかお祈り下さい。

神様は私たちの行くところには、必ず道を備えてくださいます。私は自分のことを「神様がなさった生きた奇蹟」だと信じています。

私がギラン・バレー症候群（急性・多発性の根神経炎の一つで、主に筋肉を動かす運動神経が侵（おか）され、四肢に力が入らなくなる病気。重症の場合呼吸不全をきたす、指定難病）にかかったとき、病院の医師は少なくとも六ヶ月は寝たきりになるだろうとの診断をしましたが、二ヶ月でほぼ快復しました（現在、少々の後遺症はありますが、97％回復したと思っています）。

フレデリックは数年前、ダンプトラックで事業を始めた直後に思わぬ事故で二人の、主にある兄弟を失うという非劇、ダンプトラックばかりか、事業の準備のために費やした計画、時間、労力、資金のすべてを何の償（つぐない）いもなく一瞬のうちに失うという悪夢のような現実の出来事に直面したことを静かに思い起こし、長い手紙を送ってきました。
ここに掲載したのはそのほんの一部だけです。

長い祈りの中で、国家復興途上のブルンジで一番必要とされていることは、建築資材を作業現場に運ぶ役割を担うことであると、再び主から示されたフレデリックは、今、二度目の挑戦でダンプトラックを入手することを望んでいます。
現在、私たちは、四トンから七トンくらいの中古のダンプトラックを、主が絶妙のタイミングのときに市場に出してくださることを祈っています。
これまでにも主は祈りに必ずこたえてくださいましたので、今回も主の大いなるわざを見ることを待ち望んでいます。お祈りに覚えていただけましたら、嬉しく思います。

御言葉から

フレデリックの二度目の挑戦で思い起こされるのは、サムエル記第二6章1－19節と歴代誌第一13章5－14節、15章に記されている不思議な出来事です。

このくだりを読んでの最初の印象は、神の荒療治の不可解さです。
ダビデ王国の首都エルサレムに、イスラエルの真の王であられる神ヤーウェのご臨在の象徴である「神の箱」を運びたいとのダビデのはやる思い、神への情熱は、最初も二度目も全く変わらず同じでした。しかし、神がダビデと民に示された反応は、最初は拒絶、二度目はあふれる祝福でした。

私たちは正しい動機、決断、情熱さえあれば、何でも主に受け入れられると勝手に思ってしまうものですが、神の側では違うことをこの出来事は語っています。
イスラエルの神の地上の御座としての「神の箱」の重要性をだれよりも知っていた王ダビデは、神権国家イスラエルの真の王のご臨在を象徴するその箱を、国中で最上の場所に安置したいと願っていました。
エルサレムに「神の箱」を安置することによって、民と自分の上に君臨される神の主権と支配を、イスラエルの民が正しく認識することを切望したのです。

しかし、最初に箱を移したとき、ダビデは神の示された方法ではなく、常識的に正しいと思われた方法、いわば、神の掟に則（のっと）った取り扱い方ではなく、異邦人ペリシテ人の例にならって、行動を起こしたのでした。
神の拒絶は、「神の箱」に直接関わった家来の即死という恐ろしい結果で示されました。
ダビデは憤り、―主ご自身に栄誉を帰す試みが正反対に神の怒りの顕れとなったことに対する理解できない憤慨― と神への恐れ、―主への畏敬の念ではなく、内なる罪悪感から生じた不安― で、しばらく「神の箱」から遠ざかりました。
その後ダビデは教訓を学び、神の側から何らかの指示が与えられるまでは、箱を動かそうとはしませんでした。

神を愛するダビデでさえ嫌煙した「神の箱」は、ガテに住んでいたレビ人オベデ・エドムの家に三ヶ月間預けられました。オベデ・エドムとその家族に大きな祝福がもたらされたのを見たダビデは、それを神からの「しるし」として捉え、今度は掟に則った方法で、細心の注意を払い、多くの祭司とレビ人によって「神の箱」をエルサレムに移動することにしました。

「主の箱をかつぐ者たちが六歩進んだとき、ダビデは肥えた牛を

いけにえとしてささげた…ダビデとイスラエルの全家は、

歓声をあげ、角笛を鳴らして、主の箱を運び上った」　

サムエル記第二6：13－15

レビ人が肩に「神の箱」をかつぎ、エルサレムに向かって恐るおそる主の御前に歩み出たダビデ一行、人間の歩みが「六歩」、―「六」は人の数、人を象徴する数― 許されたとき、それはもう神の祝福がダビデ一行にあり、この移動が主の御旨であるということでした。第「七歩」目からは神の祝福の歩み、このようにして、神は、ご臨在の場をエルサレムに移されたのです。

私たちはこの出来事から何を学ぶことができるでしょうか。
神の示された道を神の御旨（みむね）に従って歩むことが、私たちに要求されている真（まこと）の信仰の行為であることをこの出来事は教えています。
神は「恐ろしい行為」によって、イスラエル人に、永久（とこしえ）の神の絶対的な聖（きよ）さと、「神の箱」に象徴された聖なる方の威厳を教えられました。いや、焼きつけられたのです。
神権国家イスラエルの主にある新しい重要な始まりに際して、主は民にショックを与え、見えない神の支配の覚えとされたのでした。


フレデリックの二度目の挑戦が、このダビデの「神の箱」移動の出来事と同じように、主の大いなる祝福に変えられますように、皆様のお祈りに覚えてください。

第213号：イザヤ書17章：シリア紛争が混迷を極めている昨今、イザヤ書17章のダマスコ（今日のシリアの首都ダマスカス）に関する預言は、まだ完全には成就していない遠未来預言として、注目されている

ダマスコに対する宣告。見よ。ダマスコは取り去られて町でなくなり、廃墟と なる。アロエルの町々は捨てられて、家畜の群れのものとなり、群れはそこに 伏すが、それを脅かす者もいなくなる。エフライムは要塞を失い、ダマスコは 王国を失う。アラムの残りの者は、イスラエル人の栄光のように扱われる。 ―万軍の主の御告げ―
その日、ヤコブの栄光は衰え……やせ細る。刈り入れ人が立穂を集め、その腕が 穂を刈り入れるときのように、レファイムの谷で落ち穂を拾うときのように なる。オリーブを打ち落とすときのように、取り残された実がその中に残され る。二つ三つのうれた実がこずえに、四つ五つが実りのある枝に残される。 ―イスラエルの神、主の御告げ―　
その日、人は自分を作られた方に目を向け、その目はイスラエルの聖なる方を 見、自分の手で造った祭壇に目を向けず、自分の指で造った者、アシェラ像や 香の台を見もしない。その日、その堅固な町々は、森の中の見捨てられた所の ようになり……捨てられた山の頂のようになり、そこは荒れ果てた地となる。 あなたが救いの神を忘れてあなたの力の主を覚えていなかったからだ。それで、 あなたは好ましい植木を植え、他国のぶどうのつるをさす。あなたが植えたもの を育てるときに、朝、あなたの種を花咲かせても、病といやしがたい痛みの日 に、その刈り入れは逃げうせる。
ああ。多くの国々の民がざわめき―海のとどろきのように、ざわめいている。 ああ、国々の騒ぎ―大水の騒ぐように、騒いでいる……しかし、それをしかる と、遠くへ逃げる。山の上で風に吹かれるもみがらのよう、つむじ風の前で うず巻くちりのように、彼らは吹き飛ばされる。夕暮れには、見よ、突然の 恐怖。夜明けの前に、彼らいなくなる。これこそ、私たちから奪い取る者たち の分け前、私たちをかすめ奪う者たちの受ける割り当て。
イザヤ書17章

イザヤのこのダマスコ（今日のシリアの首都ダマスカス）に関する預言は、まだ完全には成就していない遠未来預言として、シリア紛争が混迷を極めている昨今、注目されている預言です。以下、『一人で学べるイザヤ書』p. 86－88からの引用を加えて、考察してみました。

このくだりはシリヤ（アラム）と北イスラエル王国が当時の列強アッシリヤに対抗して反アッシリヤ同盟を結んだ、まだ国家安泰だった頃にイザヤに与えられた神命のようです。イスラエルが、ダビデの時代から戦闘が絶えず、いつも敵対関係にあったシリヤと同盟を結んで和平を取り戻したのも空しく、両国の行く末はアッシリヤによる侵略、滅亡でした。732BCEに、ティグラテ・ピレセル三世が、ダマスコをアッシリヤの属州にしたことにより、この預言は近未来的に成就し、エフライム（イスラエル）の多くの都市もアッシリヤ軍により、陥落したのでした。 4節以降では、対象がダマスコからイスラエルに移ります。穀物の「刈り入れ」のときは、神の厳しい裁きの日の象徴として聖書ではよく登場しますが、神の御心はイスラエルに希望を与えるものです。たとえイスラエルの家が神への反逆のため神の栄光を失い、衰えたとしても、刈り入れの後に畑に残されるごくわずかな「落穂」のように、また、オリーブの実を収穫するとき打ち落とされずにかろうじて枝に残される「うれた実」のように、ほんの少数でも神を信じる者がイスラエルに残されることなのです。

イスラエルの民が豊かな地の産物を得ることができないのは、「力の岩」であり「救いの神」である主をないがしろにしたからである、という主のお言葉には、その道をイスラエル自身が選んだのであるから、蒔いた種の刈り取りを自ら担っていかなければならないという聖書の一貫した主張が窺えます。この原則は、もちろん、異邦人諸国にも適用され るベきものです。裁きの日には、人間だけでなく町々にも善悪の区別が明確になされ、この世で誉れを得た「堅固な町々は、森の中の見捨てられた所のようになり……荒れ果てた地となる」でしょうが、その日、贖われた者たちは、異教の神々には目もくれず、創造者なる唯一の神を崇拝するようになるのです。 最初の段落で、シリヤが都、国を失うことが預言されていますが、「アラムの残りの者は、イスラエル人の栄光のように扱われる」は、おそらく異邦の民シリヤであっても神を信じる者は、栄光ある神の民イスラエルのように、迎え入れられるということで、キリストの再臨によって成就する「神の国」が予兆されているようです。 最後の段落では、神の裁きの御手が「海」に象徴される異邦人に下るとき、突然襲うであろう恐怖と同時に、イスラエルを攻撃する異邦人諸国の騒々しさが、一般的、かつ経験的叙述で語られています。イスラエルを威嚇(いかく)する敵国の崩壊はイザヤはじめ預言者たちが告知してきましたが、具体的に成就したのはイザヤ書37：36に記されているアッシリヤ軍の突然の退陣の出来事においてでした。 他方で、「大水」（複数）や「もみがら…ちり」に象徴された敵や、12－14節の「多くの国々の民」のざわめき、騒ぎから、諸外国が対象になっており、したがって、ここに象徴されているのは遠未来預言で終末末期の戦争への言及とみなすことができ、今日の中東の動きはその成就に確実に近づいていることを指し示しています（ﾌﾙﾀﾞﾚターNo. 136参照）。

「西岸地区」の紛争の実際の原因、PLOが設立された本当の理由、昨今の「イスラエル、アラブ和平プロセス」とん挫の背後に何があるのかについて、イスラエルの前外務審議官ダニー・アヤロンは動画を用いて明快に次のように答えています。

「ヨルダン川西岸地区におけるイスラエルの法的権利、和平プロセスに注目してみましょう。多くの人々はイスラエルの西岸地区での駐留（「占領」と呼ぶ人もいます）が、パレスチナ人のイスラエルに対する敵意の原因で、平和が実現できない理由であるといいます。でもそれは本当でしょうか。イスラエルの駐留が紛争の原因だとすると、イスラエルがヨルダン川西岸にいなかった1967年以前には、紛争がなかったことになります。事実はどうでしょう。 PLO（パレスチナ解放機構）は、1964年に設立され、当時、西岸とガザのすべては、アラブ人の手中にありました。それではなぜ、アラブ人は、イスラエルがまだ西岸とガザに駐留していなかった1964年にPLOを作ったのでしょうか。彼らが解放しようとしたのはどの『パレスチナ』だったというのでしょう。その答えはPLOの紋章（中東の地図からイスラエルは抹消されている）にあります。

PLOは、中東の地図から全イスラエルを力づくで取り除くために設立されたのです。そのゴールは彼らの憲章に明記されています。このゴールは決して目新しいものではなく、PLOは、『No』と言い続けてきた長いアラブの歴史を継承したにすぎません。 それは、ユダヤ人の民族自決権への『NO』です。ユダヤの父祖の地を承認することへの『NO』です。　 歴史を振り返ってみましょう。1937年に、ピール委員会は、土地の分割、ユダヤ国家と アラブ国家への分割案を提示しました。その案ではアラブの割り当てとして、国際連盟が当初ユダヤ人の祖国として認めた領土の96％が含まれていました。 この分割案には、西岸どころか、はるかに多くの領土がアラブの割り当てとして含まれていたのです。しかし、ユダヤ人を和平のパートナーとして受け入れる代わりに、パレスチナの指導者ハジ・アミン・アルフセイニは『NO』と言ったのです。そして、自分に近い ビジョンを持ったパートナーを見つけました。

1947年に、国連は分割案を推奨しましたが、それは再び、（1937年のピール委員会の 提案ほどではなかったが）アラブ側にただ西岸地区だけでなく、それよりはるかに多くの土地を割り当てた案でした。しかし、この提示に対し、ユダヤ人は『YES』と言ったのですが、アラブの指導者は再び『NO』と言い、『イスラエル絶滅戦争』を始めたのです。

その結果、イスラエルは戦争に勝利し、建国へと導かれました（1948年）。 他方で、アラブ諸国は西岸地区全部を手に入れたにもかかわらず、一日として平和は なく、『NO』と言い続けたのです。彼らは西岸地区を発射台に用いて、イスラエルを容赦なく攻撃し続けました。アラブ諸国の攻撃は、1967年にイスラエルが防衛戦争でそこを 掌握するまで続いたのです。戦後もアラブ連盟は、あらゆる和平への試みを拒否しました。彼らは交渉ではなく、武力行使を再び続けたのです。そして、ハルツームのアラブサミットでも、彼らが連発したのは『NO、NO、NO』でした。

ここで、歴史を早送りして、イスラエルとパレスチナが『オスロ合意』に調印した1993年に飛びましょう。果たして、パレスチナ人はついに『YES』と言ったでしょうか。確かにそのように見えました。イスラエルは『YES』と言い、パレスチナ政府に自治を託し、 その設立を助けることにしました。しかし、合意に署名したにもかかわらず、パレスチナの行動は『NO』を示すものでした。その後続く五年間、イスラエルに対するテロ攻撃は 著しく増加し、何百人ものイスラエル人が殺されました。 1996年にパレスチナの指導者ヤセル・アラファトは『我々はイスラエル国家を排除し、純粋なパレスチナ国家を建設することを計画している』と宣言しました。にもかかわらず、イスラエルは『YES』と言うのを諦めませんでした。 2000年に、イスラエルのバラク首相は西岸地区の93％をパレスチナ人に提供しました。 しかし返答は再び『NO』で、テロも増加しました。 2005年には、イスラエルは和平推進を期待して、ガザ地区から撤退し、8500人のイスラエル国民を退去させました。しかし、パレスチナ人は、再び『NO』と言ったのです。今度は、ガザからイスラエル国民を狙ったロケット弾攻撃を五百％も増加させたのです。 2008年には、イスラエルは再び『YES』を試みました。このとき、オルメルト首相はパレスチナ側のほぼ全ての要求を受け入れ、わずかな領土交渉を伴う西岸地区のほぼ百％に 近い部分を割譲するとまで歩み寄ったのです。果たしてパレスチナ人はどのように答えたでしょうか。再び『NO』でした。

私たちはこのような状態を一体どのように結論づけることができるでしょうか。

1. パレスチナ、イスラエル間の紛争はイスラエルの西岸地区での駐留が原因ではない。紛争の本当の原因は、今日に至るまで、『NO』と言い続けているアラブの長い歴史にある。和平への『NO』、イスラエルの存在への『NO』 。『NO』はパレスチナの政策、教育、メディアに一貫しており、政治的、宗教的指導者たちは絶えず、イスラエル撲滅を奨励している
2. イスラエルは何十年にも亘り『YES』を言い続け、ヨルダンやエジプトとの和平条約の締結で証明してきた

では、和平を実現するため、ここからイスラエルはどのように進めばよいのでしょうか。善意と、互いの自決権を認めあうことと、両者の真の譲歩が必要です。イスラエルは、永続的な真の和平への『YES』を言い続けます。しかし、和平プロセスが成功するには、パレスチナが、とり続けている譲歩しないという強硬策の選択を断念しなければならないのです。『NO』の選択を断念しなければならないのです。今がそのときです。」

去る6月10日、私と娘はアブラ(Abra)のラクブ（Lacub）に住んでいるマバカ部族を訪問しました。マニラから北へバスで揺られること十時間、バングエド(Bangued)に着き、そこからさらに小型バス(jeepney)に乗り換えて五時間かけてラクブ（Lacub）に到着。そしてそれからさらに歩いて約二時間、ブネグ(Buneg)のマバカ部族の小さな集落にたどりつきました。

5 Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? 6 And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. 7 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendour of his coming.
9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, 10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.
13 But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.                                            2THESSALONIANS 2:1-13.

We examined this passage from 2 Thessalonians last March, when we discussed the timing of “Rapture”. This month we will examine the events of the ‘antichrist’ who is biblically defined as the one who claims to be ‘Christ’ in place of Christ, whom Paul calls ‘the lawless one,’ in this letter. He uses the term ‘?ποστασ?α’ in Greek, ‘rebellion (apostasy in AV)’ to describe a “must” event preceding the day of the Lord, depicting an aggressive and fearful revolt, that of a great departure from faith in Christ, rather than mere disbelief. Paul also repeatedly warns of a great falling away from the faith in the end times in 1 Timothy & 2 Timothy: ‘The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons’ (Ti.4:1, Line added), ‘But mark this: there will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,  treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God ?  having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people’ (2Ti.3:1-5). Other authors of the Bible such as James, Peter and Jude also warn of this specific apostasy in the future. Today, after two thousand years since the establishment of the first church many believe that this rebellion will take place before long within the professing church, by a departure from the truth revealed in the Word of God. They also believe that this apostasy will sweep the earth, become a worldwide movement and will provide a seedbed for the great systematic deception by the ‘antichrist’, the very personification of Satan himself. 

This thread of apostasy had already begun in the first century church as clearly stated by Paul in the quoted Epistle at the beginning: ‘the secret power of lawlessness is already at work’ (vs.7). However, it will intensify in the end, shortly before the Lord’s Second Coming. Concerning the coming earth-shattering events in the last days, Christ gave a lot of hints that suggest that they would be caused by signs and wonders from supernatural demonic forces: ‘If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. At that time if anyone says to you, “Look, here is the Messiah!” or, “There he is!” do not believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect’ (Mt.24:22-24, Line added), and ‘ As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.  For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man’ (Mt.24:37-39, Line added). Here Christ not only described the fallen situation to be similar to Noah’s days, but also likened the characteristics of the end time deceptions to that of the days of Noah. What was so specific in the days of Noah, that God had determined to destroy the whole earth except for eight people? It was the satanic manifestation of the fallen angels and also, the uncontrollable habitation of the ‘Nephilim’ on the earth. God wiped out mankind from the face of the earth but it is stated in Scripture that the ‘Nephilim’ a hybrid race between the fallen angels and the daughters of men ? continued to inhabit the earth even after the flood: ‘The Nephilim were on the earth in those days ? and also afterwards ? when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown’ (Ge.6:4, Line added). It is possible, therefore, that the end times will be marked by the return of the fallen angels and demonic forces just as it was in the days of Noah. 

Revelation 12 predicts the war in heaven between Michael and his angels, and Satan and his  fallen angels. As a result, Satan and his fallen angels will completely lose their place in heaven as written: ‘The great dragon was hurled down ? that ancient snake called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him’(Re.12:9). This incident will usher in a drastic shift in Satan’s activity. After being hurled to the earth, very powerful satanic beings will openly and directly manifest themselves and their activities on the earth to deceive everyone. An enraged Satan will launch into his last and most intensive demonic strategy to wage war against the believers in the Lord as written: ‘When the dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child……But the earth helped the woman……Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war against the rest of her offspring ? those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their testimony about Jesus’ (Re.12:13- 17), and Satan’s strategies are detailed in Re.13. Paul, in his Epistle quoted at the beginning, describes that the manifestation of the powerful satanic beings on earth will be inaugurated by the removal of ‘the one who now holds it back’ (v.7) so that ‘the lawless one will be revealed’ (v.8). In other words, exactly when Israel’s guardian angel Michael who has been continually holding back Satan in heaven, releases him and irreversibly throws him out of heaven at God’s appointed time, Satan’s final strategy will manifest and he will incarnate himself as ‘antichrist’. Now that Satan has been hurled out to the earth, there will be no way left for him to prevent God’s redemptive plans for mankind, apart from causing the final deception and delusion over those who ‘refused to love the truth and so be saved……so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness’ (vs.10-12).

    The message in this passage of Paul’s Epistle is very serious. Today there have already been waves of deception within the church and some contemporary prophets have been warning of this trend for some time. One of the seedbeds for the end time systematic deception will be the interfaith movement, which seems to be ingenuously proceeding among prominent religious leaders in the world today. The following article describes Satan’s deceptive way of attracting people’s hearts and minds towards “One World Religion”, under which the antichrist will be worshiped, and which Paul refers to in verse 4 in his Epistle quoted at the beginning. ‘The devil will use this movement to draw all the world’s religions together as a stepping stone towards the formation of his One World Religion. Several factors guarantee the popularity and growth of the interfaith movement in the coming years. It provides a solution to the religiously inspired violence which is escalating around the world today. It could help solve the Israel Palestinian problem in the Middle East. It can provide a means by which people of different religions can come together to tackle problems caused by climate change. It could also help the western powers win the battle for hearts and minds within the Islamic community in their war on terror. The vast political influence of the western world is therefore likely to be thrown behind promoting this movement in the future; we are in fact already seeing the early stages of this. Misguided influential western politicians and Christian ministers are already emerging as leading figures within the interfaith movement already. Tony Blair, who has also recently converted to Catholicism, is also now the peace envoy to the Middle East, and evangelical leader Rick Warren, known by many as “America’s Pastor,” are both now leading figures within the interfaith movement. They plan to use good works, for example programs to help eradicate malaria from around the world, to gain support and draw people from different religions together. Many other influential people and organisations are now linking to these ventures and becoming involved in interfaith as a result. Many other Christians in the western world are already being drawn to this movement which looks set to continue. We are only in the early stages of this at present but a great momentum has now started and is almost certain to continue to expand, and at an accelerating rate in the coming years.
    Whilst interfaith aims are often noble in themselves any Christian who becomes involved with this movement will expose themselves to powerful political and spiritual influences that can compromise or undermine their Christian faith. Their emphasis will subtly shift from walking the narrow road of faith in Christ as the only way to God to seeking common ground with other religions instead. As a result many will come under pressure to accept that other religions are also valid paths to God. This effectively contradicts the core Christian doctrine of salvation which teaches that forgiveness and reconciliation with God can only be found through faith in Christ’s death on the cross. Like Catholics many Protestants will come under pressure to compromise as this movement becomes popular. Interfaith involvement will also expose many Christians to New Age teachings. We can see this in the ministry of Rick Warren who has now introduced his vast church network to three New Age gurus as advisers for his churches’ interfaith-based health campaign. Between them these three men also teach various eastern meditation techniques and occult Reiki healing. As the saying goes “the path to hell is paved with good intentions” and the noble interfaith aims of achieving world peace and harmony between religions will fall right into the hands of those with an occult agenda’ (http://www.wordconnect.org/page_article14.php). 

    Among many, considering the fact that supernatural events such as the manifestation of UFOs are on the increase on a global scale, it would be worth informing the readers about the possibility of demonic deception in the near future as preliminary knowledge before it is too late. L.A.Marzulli, who is known to possess an in-depth knowledge of UFO’s and other supernatural phenomena is one of those who argue that the crop circle phenomena, alien abductions, cattle mutilations and UFO manifestations are all part of what might be the coming luciferian deception, i.e., the end time satanic deceptions and delusions. Recently, people are beginning to believe in the existence of friendly extraterrestrial beings, as if they would be a savior to this disintegrating earth. However, from the biblical view point Christians should not be caught up in such a deception. UFOs are nothing but agents of ‘the ruler of the kingdom of the air’, i.e., Satan written in Ephesians 2:2. 

Marzulli illustrates a scenario of the coming “Luciferian Endgame” in his book ‘Politics Prophecy & The Supernatural’ (Anomalos Publishing House, 2007, p.207-208). As for the verse 9 in Paul’s letter: ‘He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie’, he puts it: ‘We are talking about very powerful satanic beings…They will mesmerize and deceive almost everyone. I believe that these beings will manifest as extraterrestrials in UFOs, as this is the one event that could change everyone’s worldview almost instantaneously. When they appear, everyone realize that “we are not alone.” What if these beings then begin to tell us that they genetically manipulated us from primitive man, some thirty thousand years ago, and that, in fact, they are our progenitors? …What if they say that they are responsible for the “parting of the Red Sea”?...How would the average Christian belief system hold up against such an event? I believe that unless a person is firmly rooted and grounded in the scriptures, i.e. the Bible, and has a direct born again relationship with Jesus, he or she will be deceived and will believe the lie’. He also argues: ‘Cattle mutilations began in the late 1970s and have continued to the present day…The areas around the eye, cheek, and rectum have been cored out with almost surgical precision…It makes one wonder what is going on and why they are continuing today…While some researchers separate the phenomena of crop circles and cattle mutilations, I propose that they may be caused by the same agency―that of the UFO (fallen angels) masquerading as aliens. I make this assertion because these phenomena are very deliberate and demonstrate that the entity behind the crop circles and cattle mutilations has control over our skies and can take from us what it wants, any time it wants…It would be one thing if the cattle were never found again, but the fact that only certain parts are taken, and then the carcass is “returned” in my opinion is diabolically evil. What is the point, unless it is to create fear and suspicion, which it does…I feel the crop circles and cattle mutilations phenomena are leading to a disclosure of the “alien” presence at some point in the future’(p.142-144), and he mentions the possibility of the manifestation of UFO crafts over the city of Jerusalem in broad daylight and of the extraterrestrials’ demonstration of advanced technology and power, coupled with  holographic imagery depicting biblical miracles and supernatural events such as the parting of the Red Sea to show how they were behind all these biblical miraculous events. They would also claim that they genetically manipulated primitive man and that they are responsible for all that is written in the Bible. Marzulli believes that everyone seeing such a holographic film will come to embrace the new truth and this will be the beginning of a one world religious system. In this way the fallen angels disguised as aliens will deceive ‘those who are perishing... because they refused to love the truth and so be saved’ (v.10).
