#262: THE DRUZE, ALONGSIDE THE JEWS IN THE MESSIANIC BATTLE

THE DRUZE, ALONGSIDE THE JEWS IN THE MESSIANIC BATTLE

Moses promised sons of Jethro (the Druze) an inheritance in the Promised Land of Israel according to Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki, a French medieval commentator of the Bible, known by the acronym Rashi’s comment ...
Now when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he did not resort to divination as at other times, but turned his face towards the wilderness. When Balaam looked out and saw Israel encamped tribe by tribe, the Spirit of God came on him and he spoke his message: ‘The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of one whose eye sees clearly, the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who sees a vision from the Almighty, who falls prostrate, and whose eyes are opened: ‘How beautiful are your tents, Jacob, your dwelling-places, Israel! ‘Like valleys they spread out, like gardens beside a river, like aloes planted by the LORD, like cedars beside the waters. Water will flow from their buckets; their seed will have abundant water. ‘Their king will be greater than Agag; their kingdom will be exalted. …
Now I am going back to my people, but come, let me warn you of what this people will do to your people in days to come.’ Then he spoke his message: ‘The prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of one whose eye sees clearly, the prophecy of one who hears the words of God, who has knowledge from the Most High, who sees a vision from the Almighty, who falls prostrate, and whose eyes are opened: ‘I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a sceptre will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the people of Sheth. Edom will be conquered; Seir, his enemy, will be conquered, but Israel will grow strong. A ruler will come out of Jacob and destroy the survivors of the city.’
Then Balaam saw Amalek and spoke his message: ‘Amalek was first among the nations, but their end will be utter destruction.’ Then he saw the Kenites and spoke his message: ‘Your dwelling-place is secure, your nest is set in a rock; yet you Kenites will be destroyed when Ashur takes you captive.’ Then he spoke his message: ‘Alas! Who can live when God does this? Ships will come from the shores of Cyprus; they will subdue Ashur and Eber, but they too will come to ruin.’ Then Balaam got up and returned home, and Balak went his own way.            NUMBERS 24.
The Bible is such amazing Word of God, in which the relationships between His chosen people, Israel and other nations are prophetically and historically depicted in great detail. The reliability of the Bible is unshakable and it has been attested by its perfect fulfillment in the human history, thereby guaranteeing all remaining future fulfillment of what is written in the Bible. The knowledge of the Bible rightly guides us in interpreting the current world events.

God used even a pagan sorcerer Balaam to proclaim His genuine Word for the future of Israel and neighbouring nations such as Moabites, Edomites (connected to ‘Agag’, possibly a throne name for the king of the Amalekites), Kenites and Assyrians (‘Ashur’). In Chapter 24, as quoted at the beginning, although Balaam was employed to curse Israel as a diviner by king of Moab, Balak, God overpowered him for His own purposes. Because of God’s interference to open his eyes Balaam had to speak out prophetic blessings for Israel and curses for hostile nations against Israel. Concerning Israel Balaam declared: ‘May those who bless you be blessed and those curse you be cursed!’ which was the reassurance of the promises made to Abraham.

In his fourth message, Balaam even prophesied the coming messianic ruler in Davidic line, by whose appearance one nation Israel will rise and all other nations will be supplanted, facing their own doom due to their attitudes towards Israel. Among the nations the Kenites are very differently prophesied from the Amalekites who is regarded to be descended from the Israelites’ antagonist, the Edomites, i.e., descendants of Esau, although both tribes lived near. In fact the Kenites have been dealt with separately from the other tribes by Israel throughout history.

The Bible tells that Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law was a Kenite, and Moses promised sons of Jethro an inheritance in the Promised Land of Israel according to Rabbi Shlomo Yitzchaki, a French medieval commentator of the Bible, known by the acronym Rashi’s comment, who interpreted Moses’ farewell remarks as a guarantee of “a portion of the most fertile land near Jerico” to faithful descendants of Jethro:
‘But Moses said, “Please do not leave us. You know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can be our eyes.  If you come with us, we will share with you whatever good things the LORD gives us’ (Nu.10:31-32).
Balaam’s prophecy quoted at the beginning also describes a future tight end-of-days alliance between the sons of Jacob and of Jethro. 1Sa. 15:6 also describes how King Saul distinguished the Kenites from the Amalekites:
‘Then he said to the Kenites, “Go away, leave the Amalekites so that I do not destroy you along with them; for you showed kindness to all the Israelites when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites moved away from the Amalekites’.

On Friday 14 July 2017, two Israeli policemen were killed by three Palestinian Arab terrorists on the Temple Mount Compound. After the terror attack the compound was closed for two days, and on Sunday two hundred people were allowed to enter the compound for afternoon prayers under the installation of metal detectors at two entrances for security reasons, which, for the Israelis, was a totally unanticipated event.
The killed Israeli policemen were from an ethnoreligious group native to the Middle East, the Druze, comprising of a population of nearly one million throughout Syria, Lebanon, and Israel. Interestingly, the Druze, who have traditionally been regarded as descendant of Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law are not considered as Muslim although their faith originally developed from Ismaili Islam.
The deadly attack against the Druze on Friday is being counted as the fulfillment of their faithful duty for the Jews, and a sign of precipitating the end-of-days war against Amalek.
